I’ve seen the light, again. Hopefully this time for good. I’ve lined up a nice 1997 HZJ73 with an H55F and e lockers to daily drive from a ‘Mud member, this time I keep it forever. Long story associated with that decision for another time… I’m at a place in my life where I’m not carting around young kids and I’m financially stable, not to mention I bought an offroad shop that I’m relaunching so I have all of the resources I need at my disposal to do what I want to do without apologizing.

I’m going to build this rig right out of the box and be done. I have a few questions here just to make sure I’m getting the right stuff-

1. I’m going to gear to 4.88, do I just order the same gear set as I would for an 80 series?

2. Front axle shafts- I’m going to install some RCVs when I do gears. Do I order for mini truck? I remember on my BJ74 cable locker truck there were specific axles for the locker, same case for the HZJ73 8” HP front? Does anyone have a part number for the shafts handy?

3. Rear shafts- I still have a bunch of stuff meant for my BJ74, including Nitro rear shafts for the cable locked rear end. I’m assuming those are compatible with the e locker rear end? I don’t see why Mr. T would change that.

4. U bolt flip- can I just use any bolt flip kit meant for a 40/60 series?

I’m sure there will be more to come. I’m very excited to be able to get back into the Land Cruiser community, I’ve missed my Land Cruiser stuff…

That's all well and good, and Georg is awesome. I don't want to waste a fellow vendor's time, I'm not looking to buy parts, I have deep connections to manufacturers of these parts from the Jeep side of things and I'm going to purchase these from my own accounts, was just looking for part numbers and/or crossover info. Anyone got that info handy? Thanks all.

are you going to run like 35s or 37s I assume?
35s. I'm going to see if I can get away without doing a turbo. The BJ74 was great on 35s on factory gears after I shimmed the waste gate for altitude, but no such options on the 1HZ. I have no interest in it smoking like a locomotive so I know I'll have to back fueling off a touch once it gets here (6000ft altitude). I had a 1HZ at sea level and it was great for what it was, but not sure how it'll get up I70. If it does the job then I'll just roll with it. I know 1HZs can take high RPM floggings well and a regear will do a lot to help it out. Looking at costs of doing a turbo the right way I'm approaching my costs of engine swapping it with a factory turbo engine, and I have no real desire to get away from the 1HZ since I'll be able to put space shuttle miles on it as long as I change the oil and keep up on timing belts. Simplicity and just not worrying about the driveline is part of the appeal of getting another 70 series diesel specifically.
