So I put my ball-joint spacers in yesterday and broke the tops off the two front shocks. The top mounting stud twisted off of each of them, the nuts were corroded on.

I had planned to put longer shocks on eventually but it looks like it will be sooner, rather than later.

Does anyone have a part number, not OME, that I can bring to a parts store to get a shock that is about an 1 1/2" longer than stock? I am looking for a regular shock, not one of those fancy gas charged ones.

:Well, thanks again for all the help. :flipoff2:

And, once again I have done some work and answered my own question.

It seems that the '85 4rnr front shocks are about 1 1/2" longer and fit perfect. I'll pick some up tomorrow and confirm that, but the catalogue shows good dimensions.

I will be getting a Munroe shock, part # 37031.

OK, the shocks do not fit. Disregards the above post. The eye at the bottom connection is too small for the bolts off the old ones.

Back to the Auto-Value. :bang:

There must be hundreds of these ball joint extender lifts out there. What are people using for shocks?

I will spend some time looking at Toytec's website tomorrow. Maybe I will end up with the OME shock they supply with their complete lift package.

I got the Skyjacker H7052. They were $60 each and are for a 0 to 2" lift. They come with a sleeve for the bottom bushing so they could be put on older minis and 4rnrs that use a 1/2" bolt instead of the 5/8" on mine.

Just did a short run with them last night on pavement and they seem very soft. There was quite a bit of front end dip when I turned the wheel hard.

But they sure look purty, what with the red plastic cover they come with.

I have done a couple of these setups, but it has been a few years. We used KYB shocks, don't remember the application, Suzuki maybe, it's probably in that huge thread on yodatech? We just measured compressed and droop, then checked the catalog for shocks that would fit.

The Auto Value came through with skyjacker H7052. Not bad at $60 each.

Be sure to measure the droop length. The easy way is, with that corner jacked up, leave the upper bushings off the shock, put the bolt through the lower mount and check that the shock is long enough at the upper mount. If it's too short, it will be the droop stop and likely break.

The "a 0 to 2" lift" thing means little in this application. Most lifts don't increase total travel, the spacer does.
