Hey guys, so basically the story is that i initially bought some silicone oil to put in my viscous fan hub on my 95 - HZJ80, to see if it helped with overheating. Got it out, and one of the screws on it was shredded so i couldnt open it. Bought a new fan hub, went to get it out yesterday and while pulling the shroud out, snapped a piece off my radiator. So a 30 dollar job is now up to the 1k mark likely. Is this broken bit in the photos part of an auto system or a spare overflow or something? And does anyone know if toyota still sell new T.Rad radiators? Have emailed but they're not open till monday here.
Cheers

Same thing happened to me. I ended up buying an all aluminum radiator from rockauto. Someone does make a part that goes over the that piece to protect it if you go back with an OEM plastic radiator.

Glad to hear its not just my luck that got me here 😅 is there a noticeable difference going all aluminum?

It is common to break off that nipple, best to buy a brand new toyota radiator however if you drill that out and tap it for 1/8NPT and then screw a fitting in there with epoxy on the treads, let it cure for a day before you fill it can hold for a long time.

I Doubt id get away with just covering the hole with epoxy or similar, to get the car to a radiator mob 15 minutes away?

I used Adrad radiators in two of my cruisers. No issues.

The Adrad radiator have a brass nipple there threaded into a thicker boss. I think it is a stronger solution.

Last time I bought an Adrad it was around $300. I think a new one from Toyota was $1100 at the time.

Adrad is made in Thailand. Decent quality.

It's a fairly easy swap.

Mine has worked well, can’t say it’s any better than stock other than I think it’s probably a bit less susceptible to breaking that nipple off. One thing is, the top does get pretty hot to the touch and if you lean on it you’ll know it! I didn’t have my cruiser for long before swapping the radiator but I bet that isn’t as much of an issue with the OEM unit.

yea if you just covered it slim chance it would work but if you drill and tap it before putting the epoxy you have a good chance. friend of mine did that 5 years ago. still holding strong no leaks at all.

same here!

I ended up ordering an OEM one, they cost alot more than id assumed considering aftermarket costs. Here's hoping i dont break this one 🥲

Don't break your nipples people

Also this one gets broken.
