I plan to be at the McDonalds at 1824 S. Nevada (by Safeway) at 6:30, leaving by 7:00 Saturday morning. Meeting Matt in Westcliffe at 9:00. We can decide between Hermit and Rainbow when we get down there. I'll bring a saw with a spark plug...just in case. Is anyone else going?

Any idea on vicinity for camping? I am leaning towards heading over Medano pass and see if there is a back way into where folks will be. Found Hermit, but Rainbow is ATV and MC only? I am hoping to leave around 7 to head that way, but I'm not sure how long it will take to get over Medano.

We are at the 6 person round about campsite on hermit pass. Got here late and set up camp at 10pm. Having a good TimE

We woke up late on friday and you could here the sound of the waterfall in camp. We checked that out and did some hiking around, then decided to head up the pass to see if Kelli would want to take her jeep up there. We headed up and as we neared the top a jeep was coming back down as the trail was blocked before the last lake. So I backed down to a good parking spot and we hiked to the top lake. We came back to camp and hung around the campfire until it was time for bed. Got up early and since Kelli thought it was to hard of a trail we took the fj and met Sam at the shell gas station and then headed up. We found a few trees to clean up and a rock to winch off the trail so we at least got to have some fun. Then we proceeded up and picked up trash and had lunch before we got to the top. everyone was visiting when we saw an old fj 40 and bronco coming up. We laughed and said it was a heritage run. I forgot that Brett and his buddy in his bronco were possibly gonna join us until they stopped and asked if we were with the cruisers. Better late then never I always say. They came over medano so they already had a long trek. Brett's 40 was nice but i have a spot in my heart for the bronco's, which his friends was in pretty good shape. We hung out for an hour or so and then headed down to camp. Everyone said our goodbyes and then headed out. I found out the water on medano wasn't to high from Brett so my wife really wanted that to be the first real trail for her and her jeep. the wife and I woke up early and headed out and made it to the sand dunes with no trouble. The kids played in the water as I aired up the fj and jeep then we headed home. The whole family

had a great time and hope we can talk the forest service into getting this event going again. Beautiful area thats for sure.

Darryl, it's true, few can match my picnic table painting prowess. I was in Virginia during this time and not able to come on this trip.

Vic, I figured you were out of town, as you didn't bite on my comment to you. The forest service did away with the old wood tables and replaced them with expanded metal. No paint needed, so there goes another link to the times we've spent out camping and using those massive, old wood picnic tables. What were they made with 3x10 planks or something like that? Memories to past times are linked by fixtures, like old wood tables, encountered along the way. Never fear, however, as I have a similar table at the Calhan place, which is in need of paint. OK, its made with 2x4's. but the color and idea are right.
