I purchased a brand new Toyota OEM CV and was wondering if the amount of play and noise shown in the video is unusual or not.

I don't want to go through the trouble of installing it on my truck and finding out that it's no good.

Thanks!

I don't think there is an issue, install it. New OEM parts are rarely bad, most of the time it's from shipping damage.

Well, that's the thing. There is some damage to the dust shield on the outer joint and there was a small tear on the inner joint boot at the outer clamp -- it looked like something smacked the band and left a small 1/4in indentation as well as the small tear.

I imagine it would take a considerable amount of force to damage the joint in the video, especially in a delivery setting.

if there is a tear in the boot, i would return it. that is only going to let moisture in and grease out
I rebooted it last night so it'll be fine. I'm thinking the play in the video is normal. I can't imagine it'd be a problem now that I think about it -- most of the articulation comes from the inner joint.

That is normal. There are about 10 or so balls and there will be free play. Install outer flanges with new CV axles to minimize the front diff clunk.
