Brand new CV boot leaking

I feel like a moron, I’m new dealing with CV shafts and joints.I’ve searched the forum, couldn’t find answers.

What is the preferred method for removing the factory type bands on the CVs? I don’t want to harm the boot on this brand new OEM CV shaft, but i need to replace the band (mcmaster-carr on the way), and regrease the outside joint/boot, while installed, if I can.

Also, how much grease? Just fill the boot up? I’ve already found that i need a urea based grease (also ordered).

I also want to rebuild the one i just took off, so I was thinking of practicing the boot band removal on that one first.

You’ve all got me this far. School the Squid on this new mission hurdle, please!

I don't know that there's a preferred method, just remove it? Find the folded over clamps, unbend them, pry open the band. No clue about urea based grease, Toyota sells CV boot grease in handy tubes.

I just use diagonal cutters.

Don't forget the proper tool to crimp the new band. There are at least two different types. Oetiker and band clamps, I think. Each requires a different tool.

Here's one version:

I can't put my hands on the other one right now, I think it is in my plumbing tools. They use the same kind of (Oetiker) clamps on PEX tubing.

Got the band off easy enough.It was loose and able to be rotated around, and it was easy to pop off. Packed in some new grease, and installed the McMaster Carr suggested clamp.

STILL SLINGING GREASE!

What is the suggested level of tightness of these type of clamps? I feel I may have over tightened it. I’m not sure if I got the mating surface and the boot lip clean enough either.

Suggestions?

Took the boot loose again, cleaned everything as best as i could.... put back together.

STILL SLINGING GREASE.

I don't know what to do at this point. It's a brand new Toyota axle, so I'm assuming there are no tears or holes in the boot. It seems to be leaking around the end. I didn't over fill it when I replaced the grease, I didn't over tighten the clamp.

I can't think of a good reason to fix a new part unless you damaged it. Your toyota parts dept should have no issue swapping it out.

Edit: There is probably a tiny tear in the boot and no amount of new clamps will fix the leak.
