Brakes or Transmission??

"I was driving on I-70, outside of Denver, when my 80 suddenly started slowing down. I managed to pull over, but when I tried to move again, it wouldn't go. I put it in neutral, but it won't roll, even though I'm on a hill. The car barely moves in drive or reverse, even with full throttle. Any ideas?

This is probably a stupid question but did the transfer case pop out of gear? It won’t go if it’s in neutral. Try it in low on the transfer case or lock the center diff. Do you have a flashing o/d light on the dash?

No. The transfer case is still in high.

If it was brakes, they'd be smoking (or at least stinking). Is the engine revving, like it's in neutral, or straining, like it's in gear with the brakes on?
