Hey Guys,

Is it just me or am i crazy. I have a 87 rear end in an 85 pickup. I removed all the hardware brackets arms and etc that go to the parking brake function of the drums. It would appear that drums are functioning properly with out any of the parking brake components. I wanted to check and see if anyone else has done this with catastrophic results.

uhmm... yeah... the parking brake functions separately from the brakes...

coincidentally, this is how I fixed my parking brake after the IFS axle swap...

Odd, because I cannot recall at the moment.

But many drum breaks are reset/repositioned with the parking brake i.e. when you pull your P Brake, the shoes reset closer to the drum.

I know many other makes do this but for the life of me I cannot remember if the pu's do.

i do believe that the parking brake does adjust the rear brakes but i am not 100% sure.

Yup, this is true. So, if you pull all the e-brake stuff out, eventually your rear brakes will be out of adjustment and won't work properly. I would hook it all back up if'n I were you. Or convert to RDB.

if not than it adjust by hitting the brakes while backing up.

Nope, that's an old GM thing.

Are there any rear disc conversions that use Toyota calipers/pads/rotors etc?

 I was scrolling down the main forum post lists and all I saw was this..

All I could think is "Oh S#!t, what'd he (Dauntless) go and do now after all that drum removal drama?

*Sorry man, but I could see some stupid little thing coming back to haunt you, or something completely silly instead, either way I finally realized you were passing on the forum help with a reply and not banging your head on a wall again.
:flipoff2:

Back on to the topic at hand.. Yes, there are a few conversions out there that use the Supra caliper setup.

Ok guys thanks for the feed back. So it looks like they should work fine for a while. The truck doesn't really go anywhere and is more in the stage of its life where it needs alot of help. And is just moving around the house and neighborhood ( below 25 mph).

I am fine with not having the parking brake there to set the adjustment on the drums and shoes. Besides i think of all the trucks out there with siezed brake cables and parking brakes that do not work anyway so that would leave me to believe their rear brakes are out of adjustment.

I may eventually go with RDB on it but that is along way off. There is more critical repairs necessary such as frame repair.

Thanks for the Info.
