I would not recommend it for a stock rig. Chris (slvrbck) made it with his FJ with 32's and the rear locked up, but he is a fearless driver. The entrance (gatekeeper) is very difficult as you can see in the picture on this post. The rest of the trail is moderate but challenging. If you want to go I can ask if anyone has an empty seat.

A mild lift and decent 31-32 tires. We drug Matt up in his TJ, and he did fine on the rest of the trail. Steam Shovel can be done in a stock rig, but going in on the Bolivia side can get a little nasty sometimes.

Hopefully I can get another chance to go up there before the snow comes. I've been up late the last 2 nights working on Jesse's buggy...getting home last night at almost 1AM and getting up for work at 4:45 is killing me.

I'm in!

Mark, Chris. ALBERT! I finally joined! I'm in for Bolivia this weekend. I don't know if I can camp though. If you guys camp at the mouth of steamshovel and hit the bolivia trail in the a.m. then I can meet up with you guys then. but I don't want you all to change your plans just for lil' 'ol me!

Welcome, how about a post in the introduction thread so we can give you a real BBCNN greeting?

The trip to Bolivia was great. Danny made the best tri tip ever. Three of us made it up the first big rock (Albert, Brad, and me). We then hiked up to scout it out and it has drastically changed (even in the past few weeks). We decided not to try it since we had several near stock rigs with us. Several of the group did go back and do Steamshovel Trail, which hasn't changed much at all.

As you go up the trail there are challenges now just as hard or harder than the first big rock. It is interesting how much this area has changed this year alone. I drove it in 1995 with my stock FJ and there were no big challenges. I will post pictures as soon as I get the disc from Albert.

I will post a few more pictures when Albert gets them to me. Brad made it up fairly easy. I believe the short wheelbase on my FJ makes this first rock a little more difficult than a longer wheelbase vehicle. But on my second approach the old FJ crawled up the rock like a champ.

Chris and I are going to go back soon and scout it out and take photos. It is really tough now. It is amazing how much it has changed. But what a challenge :bounce::bounce2:

WOW!
Those are some BEAUTIFUL shots of the sheep for sure!
I dont think that I have EVER seen one in the wild, in person!

Here are a few pictures I took yesterday. I drove in from Lovelock and went through some pretty tough spots. I stopped and walked the last mile or so to the Dixie Valley side entrance and the first big rock. I drove out over Table Top Mt. and down Steamshovel Trail (which is always a fun trail).

These are the first 3 challenges with before and now pictures.

1st challenge now (Small).webp

HOLY FRIGGIN WASH OUT!!!!!!!
ONE YEAR!?
That is some impressive NATURAL erosion!
It actually looks to be pretty fun.

Nice scouting Mark!

Cant wait!

Just got back from Bolivia with Mark. We went out to do a little more scouting and so I could get a first hand look at the damage the water has done this year. While it is definately more challenging, it is definately do-able. I think locked on 35's is a must for the 2nd fall, and some rock straddling will come into play. If not that route, the dirt bank to the right can be climbed with a little umph. There is also a good winch rock straight in front of it. The first big rock has a little more rubber layed down on it now, and is always a fun climb. The 3rd is a little off-camber, but with a back up or two, getting a decent straight shot is the ticket. The water erosion is insane up there! It made 2 new challenges, and it has also made the trail in general a little more fun and technical.
