Im gonna start toying with my 85 pickup pretty soon and I want to take the body off so I can give it a good undercoating on the frame. There is alot of surface rust and I see this as the easiest way of getting a good cleaning on it. Any tips on doing this?

Do you have access to a barn/shed/shop with a really high ceiling?

Or maybe a Lull?

A big wide strap thru the cab windows works, that's how I've done it. Don't lift by the radiator core support, it will bend at the firewall.

I've also done it with a pair of 4x4's, slid in near the middle and rear mounting points. One person on each corner.

Two people can easily lift the bed off.

Yeah our shop has about a 12' door with chain hoist going across it.
buy a sand blaster

Didnt think about that. May just go have to dig it out (threw it in the back corner since there's too much **** in the shop.

Any other tips?

Buy some beer and pizza and have a "cab raising party"...

Be sure to have everything loose and disconnected before everyone gets there. Use some lumber under the cab to lift.

This is what I did the last time. Two 4x4's, 4 people, it was an easy lift and move, but I had it totally stripped, even the doors.

I have a limited ceiling so I have to go from underneath...

I'm going to jack it up enough to be able to get 2 4x4's across the chassis. Then using post braces? post hangers? post brackets? join the two long posts to a shorter 4x4 underneath the two, making a box. Incidentally, with 8" of free cribbing.

Then it's time for the high-lift and some cribbing :grinpimp:

not that I choose to do things by myself... I just find it easier... And I don't have to wait or rely on someone else...
