Hiya, I've decided to do some repairs on the ole pig and first up will be to repair the holes around the front body mounts. So, what is a good way to remove rusted on bolts like the one in the pic? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, ty

Also, has anyone got a better solution than replacing the hinge bushings with the brass set from SouthBoston? I thought the fj40 bushing required a bit of drilling to make them work.

it requires very little drilling for the plastic bushings, i don't know about the brass. it's more like a little bit of reaming for the plastic. works great and now easy to refurbish.

Brass worked great for me it was easy and the best part is brass is a self lubricating material , no squeaks

Great! Thanks! It looks like I'll be getting a set of the brass bushings. Anyone ever replace the body mount bolt sleeve up there in the front? If you did, what did you use? A piece of pipe? I think I may destroy the whole thing when I start cutting and whacking away on 'em.

Thanks for he replies, ty

Clean up the bolt threads w/ a wire brush, then heat it up w/ some mapp gas. Let cool, then spray the bolt w/ Kroil or other. On the bushings, Napa sells a universal kit that works good. I & many others have gone that route. Search for the part #. I know I've posted it in a "hinge bushing" thread. I also used stainless pins press fitted from McMaster-Carr to capture the spring. Disregard the bolts in the hinge in the 2nd pic.

If you can see in the pics, I had to weld a washer on top of each dowel pin. I could not find a pin w/ a cap attached or didn't search long enough. The size I used was 8 X 28. They come in a pack of 10 & you only need 8 of them. I think I did have to use one drill bit size larger than the factory hole to make a tight press fit. You could also use the bolt route but I didn't feel like tapping 8 holes. Test fit the dowel pin fitting on a drilled piece of scrap before you go drilling out the hinge brackets.

So I got the front body mount bolts out, now I'm wondering how to get the body mounts off that attach the body to the frame. There doesn't seem to be a way to get to the bolts.

Ty,

The bolts do come out. Four you get to from the inside of cab floor and four underneath. The two in the back are hard to wiggle out, but it can be done.

Good Luck with it.

HIya,

I went down and looked at the frame again, and it appears there's no good way to get inside the frame to get these out. Please advise as how to get the ones I have arrowed in the following picture out as It looks like they are bolted from the inside of the frame to the body. They are the #6 mounts. Or... is it needed to get them of to redo the body mounts?

Thanks! ty

Tyama,

I can't tell you what those four are, but they're not body mounts. All the other ones in the picture are.

Maybe one of the other guys with a stock wagon would know. Mine doesn't have those four.

Stormer,

You have the same mount kit as me, should be enough bushings for the ten mounts. I don't know what those other four are. Not needed to mount the body.

Are they the smaller dia. ones? if so, they are for the front two mounts. Here's a picture of some of mine. The two on the left are the front mounts.

Hi,

Thanks. Yep. that's them. When I got done, I found I need to adjust the fan shroud as it has been lifted up a tad and now the fan will bang on it. I think everything else looks okay so far. I put washers between the rubbers as the factory ones did. Overall it wasn't too bad. I put ed's red on all the bolts a few times and they loosened up fine. I then jacked up the front, middle, and end as I went along replacing them. I'll post up pics later. Thanks for the response, ty
