You only hear sounds from your phone when the source selected is your phone.....i.e. only Bluetooth......
I have another similar question...
My 2013 would provide an alert when a text message came in and I could hit a button and it would read it out load. This feature has gone away and I cant figure out why. Was it and iphone upgrade or a setting in it now? I have an iphone 8.

Lol... I have the opposite problem. I want to turn it off!
I get the alert pop up, and when I hit the Read button, my Bluetooth music stops while it reads the message, but then won't start again after it's done. I have to go through all sorts of button pushing to get the music to start playing again. Google Pixel XL phone, playing the Pi music player. Can't tell if it's the truck, the phone, the app, or the Bluetooth system.
