Plenty of oil - I guess 5 pints. 1/4 teaspoom of iron filings - very fine - no bits so I feel OK. Spindles show no sign of wear at all. The bearing when washed looked perfect. If I was cheap I could reassembel and get by with just one internal seal. I've ordred the whole works from Dad so I am in for the long haul needed or not.

Sounds like your learning fast
Be sure to check those 54mm lock nuts. Sometimes the threads can be all messed up after something like that. If the threads look dinged up I suggest just getting some new ones or they may strip/fall off again. Good luck with your rebuild!

Final UPDATE:

2000 miles after doing the front Axel/birf/seals service I changed the Axel oil and I'm happy to say it was still pristine clear and no metal dust on the plug. A BIG BIG BIG thank-you for the help and support given on this forum. It really is one of the best, and I guess the reason for that is that the Land Cruiser is one of the best too.
