I’m trying to flush the coolant from the 12ht and struggling to find the block drain. I think some modifications to factory have been made so it’s hard to tell what’s what using the parts diagrams. I’ve taken a photo underneath the manifold. Is it the brass one on the top?

Its the brass one.. the bolt you have highlighted is just a bolt to retain the rear push rod cover plate. Here's an image which shows a 2H block and the coolant drain location. It appears from your photo that the 12HT utilise this same port as a turbo drain point or something..

Perfect thanks, this is the picture I needed. I think whatever modification has been done on mine has deleted the block drain

I dont think your block drain has been deleted as such.. instead its being used to source, or return coolant - one assumes the turbo.. this may be the factory return location for the water cooled turbo on the 12HT

Parts diagram confirms post above..

I just re-assembled the turbo on my 12HT. The coolant line screws into the block and re-locates the drain to a new position:

What do you find if you keep following that hose screwed into the block towards the turbo?

If you take the bracket off you’ll have better access, but you shouldn’t need to

I follow this back and it leads directly to the line into the block. I don’t have that secondary bracket with the drain plug on, so I think a PO has modified and deleted.
Hmm very strange, because the turbo end and block end of the coolant line both look stock. Assuming the drain corroded out and they just welded a clean bit of line into the middle…

That part is pipe, water by-pass, no. 1 - part #16268-68010. Discontinued, but you may be able to find one used? Not sure how common 12HT parts are in Europe.

From what I’ve seen, most aftermarket turbo upgrades just put coolant straight back into the block without an in-line drain plug. They’re usually flexible hose, which makes it easier to disconnect them to drain the block, but that’s a bit harder with the hardline

I’ve just found the two bolts where the drain plug bracket connects to the block, and it’s not there, this has now confirmed my suspicion.

I’m currently flushing the coolant system so it’ll probably just take a few more flushes through the radiator drain to see it through

If you’re concerned, you could try jacking the rear of the car up to get a bit more drained out of the block
Ahhh! I hadn’t thought of that trick👍 I’m only getting 10litres out through the radiator drain so maybe some more this way
