Guys / Gals,
My Sept BJ70 will not turn over to start. It is a Canadian spec truck. The problem started with very little warning. When I started it the other morning, the starter relay buzzed. I returned the key to the off position and tried it again. This time it started fine. However, there was a recurring clicking coming from the dash (could not pin down the location) while it was running. The next time I tried to start it, it would only buzz at the starter relay. I cleaned all the battery contacts and reconnected them, plus checked voltage at each battery (they were fine) but it still only buzzed. Since the truck was not home, I was able to pull start it to drive it home. After pull starting it, the clicking noise in the dash returned and continued for the entire trip home.
I have reviewed the factory body & chassis manual without luck at identify the problem source. The wiring diagram shows starter relay and an EDIC relay, but I have not been able to find the EDIC relay (the manual does not show the location for this relay). Also, I have a second BJ70 (Oct '86 production date) so I tried swapping the starter relay but even with the swapped relay I had the same buzzing from the relay.
Clearly, I am at a loss in diagnosing this and would appreciate any help/advice you can share.

Thanks
Larry

No start (as in clicking of the starter contacts and no go), and then clicking when started (from the EDIC relay) indicate bad ground to me. Continue checking all your grounds: Battery to chassis, battery to frame, especially...engine to frame. Disconnect them all, check wires, clean contact points and put together again.

Greg,
Thanks. You were on the money. When I removed the bolt securing the ground to the engine block, the end of the ground just crumbled. After replacing the ground, the truck starts and runs fine.

Again thanks
Larry
