Hey guys,

Noticed my batteries are getting aged and my voltage really drops during glow plug stage.

I purchased a Canadian Energy battery for my VW TDI and was wondering if any of you have installed these in your rigs?

The one I'm looking at is slightly larger than the ones I currently have but looks like they'll fit.

SPECS:

CCA: 800
CA: 1000
Reserve Capacity Minutes: 170

What I've noticed with other batteries is that the RCM is usually around 100-120, so having 170 (I'm assuming here) should mean longer holding power when using things like glow plugs.

I can get this model for around $170 so it seems like a reasonable price as I paid the same for my VW battery and I'm certain it has a lower RCM than this one.

Link below...no pic, but it's a battery ;-)

Some light reading for you....

Red Tops are on their way out

FWIW i put Costco (Kirkland) brand batteries in my diesel pickup. They aren't the best but the return policy was the deciding factor. If you need your truck to start in the middle of nowhere then you might look elsewhere. I haven't had any problems with the Kirklands in the last three years.

Kirklands for me too.

And, to get technical, the biggest ones that'll fit in the holes.

It's more about the return policy than the battery with these.

Just photocopy the receipt, they use disappearing ink, and you'll be left with a blank piece of paper after a couple months.

I also use a Kirkland (Costco) battery. Had no problems whatsoever. I think they're made by the same people who make Interstate batteries, as the construction looked identical in every way to the (way more expensive) Interstate Heavy Duty that came out of the truck.

I'll have to check out the Costco ones next time I'm North or South Island. I'd be interested to see what the RCM are in the Costco versions. I have two similar but different brand batteries at the present, so I'd like to replace both with exactly the same.

I cannot believe how many trucks my batteries have been through, two parted trucks now my BJ42.. Picked them up at Wally World, they are called the heavey duty marine Energizer, back then about a 100 bucks per battery..

Leave them for months in the 42 hooked up and they start like they are fully charged. The battery technology has changed, 25 years ago when I had my 1st 42 I would changed out batteries every couple of years, they claimed the harsh suspension(worn out original) killed them.

We put mostly Costco batteries into the kids cars.

I had a marine deep cycle starting battery from wal mart in my cummins truck. Started that thing great. Also I heard they have a good exchange policy, and if you use it the time starts again giving you lifetime batteries if you play the system right. Toshi was the one who had that figured out.... Surprise surprise :flipoff2:

I have been been buying Western Power batteries for 89.99 or so from a guy here in town Island Batteries. I have abused them in the worst of ways (2x12 24V system) and they have taken a pretty good beating have had them nearly 3 years now. Pretty sure 800 or 900 CCA. Guy says they are re-branded Yuasa Japanese made battery and come with a one year no questions warranty. Good quality build, new, cheap. I have bought 4 or so for different vehicles with good success.

I've got 4 Kirkland batteries in my Ford rig. Two were replacements of the dead ones that came in it, and 2 I bought... Because of how easy it was to replace the others.
I believe they have a 2 or 3 year free replacement... If anything is going to kill the deep cycles, running them down every day will.
