I live very near (surrounded by) a golf course. The hole closest to my house was under 8 feet of water recently and only now is beginning to return to normal. The evening after the flood I took a ride on the trail reserved for golf carts. The course was totally fuc*ed. The trees lining the fairway(?) had deposits of debris up to 8 ft high off the trail.

Three days out of this week I have biked along various golf trails and watched the cleaning progress. The repairs are far from complete but the damaged holes are returning to former beauty.

The first night I saw bats, a toad and 2 separate groups of deer. Because my bike is fairly quiet I usually get up close to the deer before they see me.

The second night I almost crashed coming down a particularly steep cart trail. Same crew was out. Deer, Bats and lots of bugs.

Tonight was killer. I had just started out when I saw a lone deer on the green and quietly circled around to see how close I could get. I got within 15 feet or so. The scene was right out of legend minus the unicorn. The sun was nearly gone and the trees were silhouetted against the fading red sky. The deer looked as if it were wading through a 3 foot flood of fire flies. Bats zooming around catching massive amounts of flying insects.

I think I will make it a regular ride. What do you hunter guys know about deer? How dangerous is it to ride stealthy right into a group at dusk? I certainly wont be wearing any deer scent like the jack ass on AFV.

I think most dear would be afraid. I'd be more worried about running into a mountain lion. A lot of mountain bikers up here carry guns while they ride.

I have ridden up on stuff too...

I bike to work at 3:30am. Daily I see skunks and deer, sometimes a fox and racoons. Once I almost hit a deer on a real dark part where I ride.

You know, there's a trend in certain parts of the country where golf course are intentionally being brought into a more natural state (with better landscaping, etc.), sometimes even abandoned to allow wildlife and native vegetaion to reclaim it (hopefully carefully). Golf courses still abound, no doubt, but people pay more to live adjacent to natural areas.

You should fear the deer. I would hate to see you get you ass beat down by a bunch of does

Actually I have only myself to fear. I wrecked last night. I was not even going fast. I just misjudged turning and raked my dérailleur over a curb and launched myself into a yard. DUMBASS:princess:

I was racing my bike near Austin once. We were descending really fast (+35mph) in a pack of about 30 riders when I noticed out of the corner of my eye what I thought was a paper grocery bag (remember those?) blowing along in the wind beside the race. I snuck a direct look and noticed that it was a typical scrawny Texas whitetail deer at full sprint. I was able to identify it only a fraction of a second before it took a 90 degree turn directly into the middle of the pack. There was much carnage, including the death of a scrawny hill-country whitetail deer.

So far I have avoided hitting any deer but I usually see 10 or 15 on my rides. They sometimes cross the path right in front of me. I suppose its a numbers game and eventually contact may occur.

Before I wreck or run over cloven hoofed vegetarians I will need to fix the bike. Chain wants to jump around after the fall.

The other morning I was biking in some hills close to my house and I saw what appeared to be a small mountain lion running ahead of me. Needless to say I changed my course. Then on the next trail I saw a big Jack rabbit. Right after that as I rode to the top I came upon two young Buck. They both had about two to four points. I wondered the same thing. I didn't get closer than 50 feet before they decided they didn't want to be any where near me.

Deer no. Mountain lion yes. Or a mama moose who thinks you may be f*****g with her babies. We had a visitor the other day who was later named Candy by my kid. Came up about 20 feet from camp and went on her way. The bushes shown came up to about my chest.

I'm not a hunter but it still seems like if you don't threaten them, a buck is fairly harmless. My bike is a little louder though and a bit more speed so I usually don't tend to have problems. :D

Does seem like they are smart though, here is what I come across alot on just off my local golf course, this wasn’t a third of the heard. Seems like they do migrate down lower during that time of year.

At least you found a way to drop in an FJ80 pose.:flipoff2:
