bigger winch cable

I have a xrc8 with 5/16 cable, can I put on a 3/8 cable? I know it'll be less wire but I was just thinking about 70ft instead of 92ft. I found a new 3/8 warn cable for $45 on craigslist.

Sure. The drums are probably the same from 8K to 12K, so it would probably take the whole 92 feet.

If you upsize from 5/16" to 3/8" your capacity goes from 92' to about 78'.

And drum sizes often vary from 8k winches up to 12k winches. Don't make the assumption they are the same.
