Threw some 35s on today. Surprised how well they fit and ride on the Prado. They are from my friend's HDJ81, but I might have to get me a set too.

Washed the salt and road grime off the truck and took some better pics (see above). I'm really starting like big tires. Seems to have had almost no impact on power which surprised me. Changed the speedo by 10%, not a big deal really. RPM at 90km/h is 2100, 100km/h is 2300. They seem to suit the 4.9 diffs well. Wonder what these would be like for wheeling....

Keep then on for a while, there's no time limit on using those tires!

Looks good, Nick. Compression factor to look at now.

You mean what happens when it articulates? I did try to eye that up. Fender clearance I think will be ok, but it will be very close. Just have to try I guess. Need to drive up on something.

Realistically, I think I'll go for something more like a 33-34" tire, and on a 16" rim not 15". Will just give that little bit more room. Fun rolling around on the big tires for now though.

Looks good with those wheels on it! How does the little 4 cylinder like the added diameter and weight?

Couldn't really feel a difference to be honest. But my motor is far from stock. I'm sure with the factory setup the drag from the wheels would be more noticeable. RPM's dropped about 200. Truck has factory 4.9 diffs, which work well with the big tires.

4.9... I didn't know toyota made 4.9... sure it isn't a 3.93... that was universal in the mid 90s trucks... are those diffs 8 inch or 8 7/8?

Just curious...

It's actually a 4.885 ratio to be precise, haha. They are 8" diffs. E-locker in the back. High pinion front (same third as the 1990+ 80 and 70 Heavy duty series front diffs). Axle housings are custom to the Prado. Birfields and front axles are same as the 1990+ 70 Heavy duty.

Prado is sort of a mish mash of parts. Other than the (stock) engines, they are tough capable rigs though.

I've got those 33/12.5's on 15" rims you can play with, still in my shop. Be nifty to be able
To do a comparison. Heck, if you want we could even stick those big heavy Toyo's on there.
I know since they are on 17" rim, the god's will strike you down, but we'll just have to take a chance.

Thanks a lot for the offer Jon!

4.88 is that stock in a Prado. .

8 inch diff must be a small pinion in it...

Cool learned something today
