I did all of river road on Saturday. I did not do old ore or black gap since I was by myself and had no recovery gear.

Definitely do them in the future. You don't a winch for any of the roads out there (not many things to winch off of anyway). As long as you have a tire repair kit, bottle jack and traction boards, you'll be fine on anything out there. Black Gap is WAAAAY overrated. Can easily be done in a stock rig. Old Ore is rough in some areas, but easily tackled in a stock rig as well.

Good to know...next time you run out there shoot me a line...I’d love to do it with another rig.

I have done both many times on a dirt bike.

Awesome write-up. Thanks for sharing. I love it out there, and my family and I are heading back.

We're heading to Alpine on Sunday for the week, with a few days in the park. I just got my LX570 in July (it's a 2011). I've done Old Maverick road in a Hyundai Sante Fe, but none of the other primitive roads. I'm getting some 18" rims and Nitto tires put on tomorrow, but it's bone stock, otherwise.

How rough was Old Ore and Glen Springs? I really want to get into some of the more remote parts of the park, especially with it being Spring Break. We've been there over a dozen times in two-wheel drive vehicles, so we know the general safety rules of being out there. Since it's so far from help, I don't want to get myself in a bind. Any advice is very welcome. Thanks in advance!

I drove glen springs several times last week, very doable on a stock vehicle. A little bumpy at times - the roughest section is near black gap.

Amazing photos! thanks for sharing! I gotta get back to big bend.

Big Bend is my favorite NP and such a special place. Somebody should take the dude from Celebrity Apprentice out there may change his mind about things.

I did a very similar trip covering just about every road you did back in '14.

BBNP is one of my favorites. I’ve driven every road numerous times and I never get tired of it. I notice things better the second time. Usually solo and never felt uncomfortable on any of the roads. Only in the Big Bend Ranch State Park have I ever felt in over my head going solo. It’s a rough and isolated place to be if things go south.
