Beta on off-road camp spots

I love backpacking to get away from crowds, but I just picked up a 07' FJ Cruiser last week and I would really like to find some 4x4 spots to camp in the NC mountains. Plus, I have some lazy friends too that would be more apt to truck camp.

Where is a good place to get intel on good spots in the NC mountains? Preferably near a trout stream (Now I'm just being picky).

Anyway - Look forward to shooting the $h1t with y'all about camping gear,etc.

Try finding a local 4ad club. They will know the best trails and where the best camping is.

I'm in the Charlotte area (just across the line in SC). But I can be in Asheville, Boone, etc in a couple hours. I've car camped in Wilson Creek, but I did that in my Subie - looking for something a little more interesting than just forest roads.

That will hook you up with locals who know your area and you will find like minded people looking
for what you are.
