as stated above whats the best way to put in new clutch linings on a 1980 fj40?

remove the transmission or move the engine? coz i know for land rovers they move the engine instead....
any shortcuts i should know about when changing the lining?

is yours a splitcase transfer? usually easier to pull the trans/transfer combo.
if one piece transfer case very easy to pull the 4 bolts holding the trans to the bell housing, motor is supported by the rear motor mounts.
if split case transfer, you will need to support the engine as you pull the transmision off the bellhousing.

I would change the throwout bearing, clutch, preasure plate, pilot bearing and rear seal on motor.
