this is the way. Ram mount = zero locks, quad lock = FOUR locks.

mic drop.
Seems secure enough. The downside is that you seem to be limited to using their case (which limits you to devices they make a case for) or you have to permanently attach their mount to the back of the case. The X-grip will hold onto my Otterbox case, or whatever other phone shaped item I stuff in there. I've ridden a lot of miles on a lot of rough roads without any issues.

We've all got our preferences, but I don't really see any of them as a "mic drop". That's why they're all still in business.

It worked out very well last weekend offroading. And the best thing about it is that I got it for free.
And yes, I can charge the phone too.

Any chance you have a receipt with part numbers for the RAM stuff? There are so many choices on their site. Thanks

Arm: RAP-B-200-2U
Large Phone Mount: RAM-HOL-UN10BU
DeltaVS A-Pillar Mount with 1" RAM Ball:

I don't know the exact 1" Ram ball DeltaVS has in their kit, but since their price is the same ($11.49) as Amazon/Ram Mount, I included it with their A-pillar mount. It is a B-size ball with a 1/4-20 stud, but I didn't measure the length of the stud before I installed it. The stud is probably 1/2" or 5/8" long, which depends on the depth of the threaded hole on the A-pillar mount.

I have a pixel 8, which could have used the smaller phone mount, but went with the large mount instead.

Agreed. And the Quad Lock branded phone cases are not very protective. The corners are not very robust and the coverage around the edges of the screen are poor. That's just my opinion. There is a stand alone Quad Lock female portion you can epoxy on the back of your phone case, which is fine, but it's ugly and adds a lot of bulk. I'm still searching. Thanks, guys.

If you want to get fancy, you can do the holy trinity of phone mounts. Ram Mounts ball + arm, pro clip base, quad lock mount.
Do you by chance have links to those three things. Every time I go to buy a setup I get overwhelmed with all the choices. Using a suction cup mount right now that’s not that great.

Thank you very much for this!

I just put this in.
Ram Mount plus DeltaVS mount.

I picked up a magnetic quad mount and 1" ball attachment to compare against the Ram Phone Holder.

4x4 Car - Ball Top Cap Adaptors - 1" Ball Top Cap Adaptor
Car/Desk - MAG Head
Quad Lock Phone Specific Case

Total Cost: $63.22

The Ram Mount phone holder (RAM-HOL-UN10BU), which doesn't include a case, was $43.49.

Mag Lock Pros:
  • Easy one handed mounting
  • Always perfect alignment (OCD in me) once set up.
Mag Lock Cons:
  • Case interferes with wireless charging but doesn't completely stop it.

Ram Mount Phone Mount Pros:
  • Not phone specific, and can use any case.
Ram Mount Phone Mount Cons:
  • The ram mount case requires two hands for mounting the phone.
  • The phone is never in the exact same spot each time it is mounted.
  • Because of where I chose to mount the phone, the door must be open to mount the phone.
  • The arms may cause interference issues. In my case, the Ram Mount had to be positioned further from the steering wheel than the Quad Lock.

I really like the Quad Lock mount and will be using it going forward.
