We (I) could use them now, cold, snow, and slick. The OEM tires are not cutting it anymore.

Road noise with the GY's?

Pics of WifeofGrench's LC?

You probably want a closer pic - but here's the one that's on here already...

Her's is the red one on the far right of the line up. Mine is the gray one next to it.

I have had, on my truck, the following setups:
-Stock tires on stock drive train - use it as a baseline here.
-285 MTR on stock drive train. Acceleration suffers. Starts searching for gears when going uphill into the wind at 75mph.
-285 MTR on supercharged drive train. Acceleration is back. Much less searching for gears.
-315 Duratrac on supercharged drive train. Acceleration suffers. Still not searching for gears.
-315 Duratrac on supercharged drive train with 4.88 gears. Accelerates faster than stock drive train on stock tires. Holds 80mph fine over any appropriate road in Nebraska. Still have to downshift for mountain grades but I don't have an issue with that.

I run 315s and I have no trouble passing semi trucks going up hill with a headwind.:flipoff2:
In impact of an oversized tire depends on how the transmission reacts. I've never run 285s or 295s but from what I've heard, they put your tranny between gears, so it tends to fish for gears. 315s will have you over geared by about one gear. First gear performance will suffer, otherwise it's just peachy, highway driving on flat ground is improved, hill climbs on the highway usually require you to drop out of OD.:steer:

Clearly you have never been on I70 through the tunnel, it's only 11,000 feet above sea level

I have been happy with my 255/85 kelly safari msr's. They are getting low on tread these days. I get 16-18 mpg freeway @ 65-70. stock height. 5 passengers and sliders.

And you've done this at 110 degrees without overheating?

Another thought that may trump all of this is that with the OME stock height lift (about an inch), the LC just barely clears the garage door with the ski rack installed.

I've been looking at this.

One thing I will advise as someone will chime in to go 315's, don't do it unless you like getting passed by semi trucks in the snow on I70.

Reading past posts found your thread on the GY Duratracs, don't know how I missed it before.

Where was I when you were swapping 265's and 285's, etc, damn!

I have some 315's KM2's I am trying to swap now

IMHO, the best daily driver tire size is a 235/85R16. They are nearly the same diameter as stock 265/75 , but a little narrower, so smaller footprint for possible better gas mileage. They will also dig down better in soft snow and mud. They won't corner as well on pavement, compared to the same tire in a wider width, but if you get a quality tire, you get quality performance. I have run these in a Bridgestone Revo II and really liked them. I cornered them damn pretty hard on big downhills on paved mountain roads, and they had great traction. Others to consider for all-around performance are the high ranking (TireRack.com) Firestone Destination A/T, Kumho KL-61, Michelin LTX A/T 2, and the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour.

I am currently running 285's for better offroad clearance and find that they have noticeably slower acceleration and worse gas mileage. I can compensate slightly in town by turning off overdrive to maintain higher RPMs.

I think ultimately this is what I need to hear over and over. Until I have another DD and the LC gets what it deserves as a part time fun vehicle instead of the daily slog, a more reasonable tire size is in order. For anyone living in the front range driving up I70 often, lack of power is very frustrating. The memory of my 90 4Runner with larger than stock tires haunts me.

I tried to stay away from brand and type because that is more of a personal decision. Size can be more factual, you put 285's on it and this is the result, etc.

285s. Run them all day in the Mountains of East TN. Pulls up the hills with no problems.

So many people are chiming in with what tire size they drive without indicating why they are the "Best Daily Driver" tire size. There is almost no reason to slap on a 285 or 315 for this purpose other than fashion. A 285 could be argued for as the one of the most versatile sizes for a combo on/offroad rig. I'd argue that a 255/85/R16 would be better in this respect, though options are limited in this size.

Where you at in E-TN? What's your truck look like? I'm in Cleveland and run up and down all over E-TN from here to Nashville-Tri-Cities and back home.

I like tall skinnies, I use 255/85's personally. The 235/85 do not look good on an 80 with flares IMO but their isn't a better way to hit 20mpg in an 80 with the 1FZ than a HWY tread 235/85 at max PSI (up to 80 psi if you can handle it.) The 235/85's would be my pick if I was at 11,000 feet daily.

New tires on yesterday, can you guess what size? I know it's not dramatic but neither was the OME stock height lift.

I wanted the 285's but wasn't willing to gamble with the reported performance drop. I wanted GY duratracs but they seemed a little extreme for daily urban use and the tire store was not eager to sell them (weird considering they cost more than what I bought?).

Snow in the forecast
