Good news all. Chris at Toyomaster tracked down a bad butt splice in one of the O2 sensor wires. Passed emissions today with flying colors. Thanks for all the input!
Chris is the best. He has always treated my Toyotas great. Hope he never retires! Is the selfish of me???..........

Good, reliable, knowledgeable mechanics are far and few between. You've found a good one. I had a problem with an '89 Camry I used to own where every time I shifted from P to D, I would blow a fuse that made my dash lights, windows and door locks stop functioning. My mechanic found a wire going to the backup lights had been snagged and worn through by the trunk pivot/hinge. Spliced, insulated and secured solved the problem. Unfortunately, my mechanic was my dad. He's in his 70's now and isn't quite as capable as he once was due to back pain problems.

He recently had to send his '83 FJ60 to his favorite mechanic to diagnose a engine stumbling problem at speed. He thought it might be the fuel pump but he didn't have the physical ability to replace it and I didn't have the time with three of my cars needing maintenance currently. Plus he lives an hour away. The mechanic found that his choke cable had broken and was allowing the choke linkage to flop around creating intermittent issues. Dad didn't know because he doesn't normally need to use the choke in the warmer months. He did not charge my dad for the diagnosis, just the tow. And I ordered the new cable off Ebay for him. He will be replacing it himself. In the past, before he was old and broken, he would have pulled the air cleaner off himself and would have found the problem himself.
