HaHa... Thanks for the offer, I like the first bullet one you posted, though don't really want to take the goodies away from you. Plus I have a few vises already. :whoops:

I always remembered using a big old heavy vise that my buddy had in his shop growing up. Nothing these days seemed to compare unless I wanted to spend about $500 bucks. I started looking on ebay and craigslist and finally found a big beautiful old school USA made Athol probably from the 40's or 50's. I love that thing. Cost me around $125 w/ shipping on ebay.
If you got kids, I look at a good vise as a family heirloom like my buddy's old vise was.

I have an old chain vise that was my great Grandfathers from when he was young....I have to dig it out of storage and restore it. It was passed down to me and i will pass it on to my kids. It operates by a chain and gears. when I dig it out I will post some pics.

here is that chain vise that was my great grandfathers. He was a blacksmith for the sterling mines in NY. There were only a handful of these made in NJ by Fisher. This is one I will keep in the family.
