Valley of the moons

Well a write is necessary for this trip to finish it off. The day started with 5 Toyota products and 2 Jeeps.... before long the Jeeps bowed out and left the Toyota crowd. @Justin Zwick led us around the trails with us bring up the back of the group. @Surfnoverland, @SocalLCruiser and Robert, Justin's friend, were left to crush this trail. The way we went was very interesting with some good terrain to go over. First was some steep followed by a 4 foot almost vertical ledge which the traction control crowd did well on and a stock taco crushed. I happen to spin a bit due to e locker not locking up. Once over that there was more steep with many rock gardens and great views. Saw a bunch of the area and not a lot of traffic out there. We got to the opening of the actual Valley of the moons but found some rock falls had made the pass a bit difficult. From what I was told there are 1 to 2 foot boulder gardens that lead in to both access points to the valley, with one being a bit steep. Since the Taco had no armor and still had paper plates we called the run at that point. Will definitely need to run out there again and check the way in. @Justin Zwick said if you had sliders, a lift 2"+, and 33 to 35" tires you should be able to make it in...bottom armor is a good idea too. Videos are below.

We had a great time and this is probably one of the funnest trails I've been on in San Diego. It is definitely worth doing again!

I have been there many times in the past, cool area. Just be mindful that the very eastern portion of the road past Elliot mine is in the Jacumba Wilderness Area, so driving is prohibited even if the signs are removed. I know many local groups still go into the area know as the valley of the moon, but BeachNToys should not be one of them. Last time I was their a few years ago the signs were driven over and broken. The main loop appears OK, its just the drive into the valley that's off limits. Just trying to be a good steward of the remaining trails we have left and not be "the group" that gets an area closed.

Straight from the BLM site "Motorized equipment and equipment used for mechanical transport are generally prohibited on all federal lands designated as wilderness." Here is the map.

Here is a close up of the area I am talking about, the group I was with a few years ago was told this by a Border Patrol agent that was checking us out while he was patrolling, since I believe this is a high use border crossing area. He was a pretty nice guy just checking what we were doing.

We didn't see any BP all day last week. Must have gotten the weekend off due to .GOV cutbacks!

We had local assistance to find different areas. I don't think we got in to the areas that were off limits as there was no signage to those areas.
