The Bear Valley Trail run set up for this Saturday is set to start around 8:00 at the Trail head Bear Valley Trailhead For those coming from the North or West of I-15 we can meet at my shop in Kearny Mesa and Caravan out around 7:00. This trail is on National forest land, but since we aren't parking you won't need an adventure pass, if you don't already have one.

This loop trail isn't too difficult and has 3 or 4 obstacles that you have to do one direction then the opposite on the way out (And can pretty much guarantee a tire getting a little air at some point). But I've seen stock height vehicles make it, its always nice to have a little lift for the rockier sections (otherwise picking good lines will get you through). The run usually takes about 3 hours depending on how long we decide to take. There are places to take breaks for lunch and messing around.

A few that are joining decided after the run was done, to head out to the Ocotillo (about 45 minutes from the trail head), to spend the afternoon then camp out overnight. Anyone interested in the post run activities is welcome to join. Where we camp there is shooting and some offroading if you want to go play and explore. Its a peaceful spot with no one around except us.

I'll be at the meeting tomorrow if any one has any questions or hit me up on this thread.

We are going to be coming along for this one...not for the camping unfortunately

Bear valley has been gated for awhile. It was turned into an OHV area. Another option out that way is climb up Sheephead Mtn (Buckman Springs / Hwy 8) to the glider launch. It is an up n back with nice views to the ocean on top. It would be a fun run with the cirrent weather. Short run, about 30 min to top. Winched this guy out about 2/3s of the way up a couple weeks ago. Fully stock pathfinder. I kept trying to get him to stop before he got himself stuck and blocked the road but he just kept going until he put himself into the ditch. He said “I want to get into overlanding”.

Another option is 20 or so more miles east to In-Ko-Pah rd and Valley of the Moon. Great wheeln and scenery out there. This is the border fence line.

I will get a hold of the forest service and see if it is still closed off. I haven't run it in about 8 months, but last time it was open. They did close off a lot of the off shoots for OHV's?

I just called the Ranger and it is closed except for OHV's. Standby while I look for an alternative. @Cruiser Bauers, what do you think of doing Valley of the moons this weekend instead of later this month?

Think that sounds like a great change of plans.... maybe plans something else for that day in the future.

So it sounds like we have a change of venue for Saturday after talking to @Cruiser Bauers we decided to do the Valley of the moons trail in Jacumba. This is a first time for me on this trail so I don't know how challenging it will be, but I'm sure we will be able to tackle it. We will plan on rallying at the Shell/Chevron gas station off of the Jacumba exit at 0830. For those that want to caravan out from SD we will be meeting at my shop @ 5490 Complex St. SD, 92123 (Kearny Mesa behind the Court House) 32°50'03.0"N 117°08'09.6"W
Thanks to @Pigcat for the heads up on the Bear Valley trail closure!
