Putting a Comprehensive 100 Baseline List together after searching and searching and searching. I just needed a good list in one place to get started. Figured I'd share it.
Recently purchased a 1999 Toyota Landcruiser, 129K miles, timing belt replaced and water pump was serviced before purchase. Suspension is stock and pretty tired. Don’t know any more than that. Going to Toyota to get service history, if they have it.
I’m going to start getting my hands dirty, while also going to a reputable local mechanic (not an LC specialist, unfortunately. Nothing near me in RI).
I'm a new LC owner. I started by posting here, and got pointed in the right direction. Thanks to those who helped. I was told to “baseline” my LC. No knowing what the LC baseline was, I researched. I reviewed the FAQ, Slee Off-Road 100 Guide for Newbies, and word searched “baseline” here. Very informative, but no 100 complete list.
My personal processes to start baseline:
1. Fluid Film the entire undercarriage (pretty important in RI, the LC came from CA is is super clean underneath)
2. Use baseline list to self Inspect what I can. Perform baselines within my capability
2. Bring to local mechanic and have them inspect the rest, while performing the “baselines” I can’t perform myself
3. Install new suspension…1-1.5” suspension lift…any recommendations on brands? Mix and match brands? Best results?
4. Apply Fluid Film any new parts underneath
Yes, everyone’s 100 series LC is different (present condition, setup, and usage) and everyone has different opinions and desires on materials (type/brand/etc.), maintenance, and scheduling. I am by no means an expert on LCs, but have some mechanical experience and have a bit of OCD!
SO, I AM NOW LOOKING FOR INPUT ON WHAT BRAND PRODUCTS I SHOULD USE, WHAT BASELINES I DEFINITELY "SHOULD" PERFORM (at my mileage), AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON THOSE TO HOLD OFF ON. ALSO, WHAT AM I MISSING?
YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS? (Especially on a nice riding and handling suspension lift set up)
I started by making this list below. Some are checks, some are definitely on the "to do" list. I only filled in answers on a few items, but I would be interested in people input.
