I have a 1992 4x4 base model pickup with no tilt on the steering column and only 2 speeds on the wipers which I can't stand.

I am thinking of picking up a column from a sr5 or 4 runner that has the tilt and or at least intermentant speeds on the wipers. Thinking of replacing it with a 1989-1995 unit. Will a tacoma 1995-2002 unit work?

Has anyone done this kind of swap and is it plug and play or will I need to get wiring harness, relays, etc. from the donor truck?

I also have no power steering. I have all the lines, pump, cooler etc. but no PS box. Is the non PS steering box the same as the PS model?

I have been told it is the same unit, it just has the holes for the lines blocked off? I have not taken it apart to see if this is the case. I would like to switch the column and do the PS at the same time.

I also like the looks of the rock assault power steering kit. Anyone have experence with this kit? what is your opinions?

Thanks for the help.

to get more speeds on the wipers, you will need the switch, relays, and motor. Essentially to graft the newer harness into the power source of the original.
I'm considering this conversion myself for the future, but I'd like to see what the differences are between the switch assemblies, if they're similar enough, I'd keep the stock column, and graft the newer switches on. if the wiper harness is complete, then all you will need is battery positive to the harness, and to remember that Toyota is negative switched.

The PS and non PS boxes are different. The basic has no steering fluid inlets or outlets, and no impeller- just gears and a worm.

Rock assault kit? by TG?
I think the price is much for what they offer, but it looks complete.

Thanks for the info on the PS boxes.

That is a great link to the wiper question I had. I can not thank you enough.
