Barkerville

Vanny, I am planning a similar summer vacation for my family this year. We'll be taking the old Barkerville wagon road from Likely. (not the dirt super highway) Feel free to PM me for more details if you'd like!

Been trying to plan the family vacation and not be on the main roads the entire route. Here is what I am thinking;

Day 1 - leave Ladner heading to Pemberton, D'Arcy to Seton via the Highline and to 100 Mile
Day 2 - 100 Mile to Wells
Day 3 - Barkerville area
Day4 - Barkerville area
Day 5 - Barkerville to Kamloops via Likely
Day 6 - Kelowna for a family function
Day 7 - Home

I am not sure about Day 1 and Day 5. Is it realistic to make it to 100 Mile in 1 day via the route I am thinking. I remember as a kid going with my family in the old rear wheel drive F250 with a camper on the D'Arcy to Seton Highline Road. It was a god adventure.

I am also trying to figure out the Barkerville, Likely, Kamloops route. Looking at the map it appears you have to swing out east on Cariboo Lake FSR to Cunningham FSR. Seems like a long route for a lone vehicle with a family in it. My wife is worried about the possibility of mechanical issues being a lone vehicle. I am not too worried about it. I am more worried about the distance and time to travel it.

Interested in opinions from those who have travelled the areas.

As far as mechanical problems and seeing people on that likely loop, it depends when you go. After september you'd probably be good as there'd be some hunters drivin by eventually. On any sunny weekend in the summer you'll see the odd tourist checking out the ghost lake falls....

I think I'd break up the driving and take another day in the lilloet area and one less in barkerville.. one day to 100 mile is no problem if you are making time but is a fair amount of driving for a family..

My wife and I drove to Belize in 7 days before kids. Maybe it's time they start getting used to long drives. They are 9 and 10.5 so they should be able to handle it.

Am I correct on the route to Likely/Barkerville?

i was out that way about a month ago. if i were you, knowing what i know now, maybe i would plan it this way.

B-line it to barkerville on the first day. camp and hit the town on the second day while you are still fresh and mucho motivated.

enjoy barkervile for the day. then head back the next day on the gold rush trail they got going ( heading south east). enjoy the route and pick your way back. you will have a s*** load of stuff to talk about after visiting the town and your family will relate to what is to come. its a long way back and you can pick a million different destinations to enjoy. and yes there route is from likely to barkerville. i have been told that the yanks peak route is not realy doable unless you know wtf is going on and s*** so dont try it.

Wife and I did the highline road in June in the 100. Road was beautiful, bit narrow and rough but no problem (she was 7 months pregnant)
If I recall it took about 2 hrs from D'arcy to Seton Portage and we were taking it easy.

Road from seton to carpenter lake was like a gravel hwy.
