Long story short one of my clients is getting rid of his 01’ LX470 after the AHC line blew.

He’s asking 3k, obviously needs new suspension components. 270k miles. Tons of engine work until this year, it’s solid.

Feels like a good chance for a winter beater but idk. Rust blows. I’m in Illinois btw

Thoughts welcomed

IDK that I would even consider this for a beater. The inside of that frame is probably toast. Unfortunate for a truck of this quality. Exact reason I moved to south central Texas from the Northeast, I'd take the heat over this every time.

For 3k I’d buy it. The engine alone is worth 3k. The frame on these trucks is so robust that you could drive for years before it fails.

Appreciate the feedback. I too would be all in for 3k. But with the immediate suspension cost. Real cost is probably closer 6k after that, I’d think.

Makes it a little more hesitant

How much is it to install an OME suspension swap? Or you could replace the failed AHC line. 🤷‍♂️ or sell it as a parts rig for $5k.

Pass. sounds like you have $3-$4k on top of the $3k purchase price. At that cost you could get something else, with minimal rust

depends on what you want to do with it. doing any work on that is going to be insane. I would never want to work on that

if you just want to drive it until the wheels fall off or part it out , $3k might be ok.

No, and I live in the rust belt.
Maybe cheap beater, but there's better options vs a rusty 100.
