Here's a link for anyone interested in seeing some of the pics I took during our recent trip to South Africa. It was an incredible experience; one where words do not fully convey the impact imparted upon Sandy & me. Somehow, someway we will go back there someday!

Interestingly enough the Defender was very comfortable. Maybe it has something to do with the grab bar for each row of passengers but Sandy never complained about it ;). Until our Ranger Oxide, a couple times out, decided to search for animals on seldom travelled/steep/rough/overgrown trails; Sandy said aloud to everyone: Wow this is just like Dan drives his Land Cruiser back home . It was when we were on those types of trails that I was cheering Oxide on to keep finding more challenging terrain!

I asked Oxi, as we called him, about reliability and/or maintenance issues with the Defenders and he said they were basically very reliable! These also had V-8's in them...and he could shift the t-case on the fly without stopping as we have to do...not knowing anything about LR's I admit my ignorance right now about them...but just from this experience I can see some of the attraction to 90's and 110's over here.

Very awesome Dan!
amazing how well camoflauged that the leapords are.
Looks like a beautiful place that you stayed as well. Happy to hear that you and the missus had such a wonderful time.
Its a real drag to come home sometimes, isnt it?

Thanks for posting those and sharing.
I was looking forward to seeing those!

Maybe it is all of the electrics that we "need" here that hurt their reliability.

Darcie and I have talked about it before, if we had the money, we would own a Defender, reliability be damned. They are just too cool. I had a chance around 2000, to buy one of the 500 D110's that were brought into the states. I just didn't have the 35K, plus the guy lived up north here and he said it was slooow pulling the hill by Parr. Didn't matter, I still wanted it. Knowing what they are worth now, I might have tried harder. That and now knowing how easy a diesel conversion is...

Thanks for posting your pics. That looked like an AWSOME trip!!!

My .02 on LR's is. I like the 90 and 110. They're simple and built strong. The rest of the LR line, like every onther make, has gotten into too much wiz-bang doo-hicky stuff that has nothing to do with getting you from point A to point B.
