So this is probably up there with one of the least technical questions out there. I am trying to get my new to me 2009 LX570 sorted. One of the service reports said the following:

5/07/2014
RECCOMMEND TO REPLACED BOTH REAR HATCH SHOCKS ~|~CLIENT STATES: REAR HATCH TAIL GATE SUPPORTS ARE NOT OPENING THE HATCH AS QUICK AS IT SHOULD. PLEASE ADVISE. ~|~ ~|~73864 REAR HATCH SUPPORTS SLOW RECOMMEND TO REPLACE BOTH REAR HATCH SHOCKS

SERVICE: REPLACE BOTH REAR HATCH SUPPORTS, SEE NOTES
DESCRIPTION: REPLACE BOTH REAR HATCH SUPPORTS, SEE NOTES ~|~ ~|~,CUSTOMER DECLINED SERVICE -CUSTOMER WILL HAVE WORK PERFORMED LATER
So I knew about it before I bought it, inspected it and decided it wasn't a deal breaker. It isn't super bad but the hatch does sag a bit unless I help it. Now with a month of ownership under my belt and being 6' 1" I've hit my head enough times to want to fix this.... I guess it is now "Later"!

So my question to you guys... OEM @ 130 each? Or some aftermarket for ~$40 for both. It seems like a no brainier to go with aftermarket. It is an easily serviceable part. Not necessary for the operation of the vehicle. And the price difference is substantial. I typically try to use OEM parts as much as I can, the more times introduce a possibly inferior product the more headaches you have in the future. But at the price difference I could replace them every 2 years and still be money ahead.

Anyone go aftermarket and what are you experiences? If so what brands would you recommend? Anything to stay away from?

Like always I am overthinking things... Thanks in advance.

For this application, aftermarket is fine as long as it is the right part.

I replaced mine; there's a thread running around with the part numbers. I used the LX specified part (non scientific Amazon match) as LX has a powered door.

Some tips in my build thread on getting quick access to the mount nuts.

Thanks for the info! I guess I will give the aftermarket ones a try and check out the build thread.

I have the same issue. I found these part numbers for a 2009 with powered lift gate.

RH - 68950-69105
LH - 68960-69065

That is what I found too...

It is hard to not at least consider these given the OEM prices...

Agree 100%, I saw those as well. I'm just wondering about the special valving/charge they have to have with the motorized door. Would be far more expensive to replace a burned up door motor I'd bet.

To add for fun I tried ordering these from Camelback Toyota Parts site and they came up as discontinued...? Lexus only item?
