AZ emission visual inspection?

Fairly new to AZ.

My question is: I am at the point I need new pipes and a muffler. Amazingly it still passed with the rusted holy pipes. If I where to change from the stock 2 CATs to a 2-1 CAT would this still pass AZ emission inspection? Does AZ even do a visual? This is for the PHX area.

Yes I converted to a single cat and just passed.

They check to make sure it has a cat, and that the engine emission parts are present. I have an aftermarket cat and occasionally I have to point out its location to the inspectors (I relocated it a bit further back) but other than that they don't give me any grief.

I have same as yours a 62 I had only replaced muffler and pipes and no problems.

As long as you don't have any engine codes, you should be fine. I passed a 97 Mustang Gt with no cats and straight pipes without any issue (but I had MIL eliminators on my rear O2 sensor so no check engine lights) My 80 with a super rusted exhaust and failing cats passed as well, but again I didn't have any codes. AZ is pretty chill about emissions from my experience.

On a OBDII vehicle they should not look under your hood or vehicle. Testing at the OBDII port only for codes and pressure test gas cap is all.
