My brother has a 1990 4 runner v6 that has a bad rear axle (entire axle not just shaft). Does anyone know if one from a 1994 is the same? I am a FJ62 guy and couldnt answer his question but knew that someone on Mud could. Thanks

Yeah, there's a big plug on the top of the chunk. There will be a sensor with one bolt holding it on, a wire and a weather connector.

Remember, Toyota's are drop-outs, so everything will be on the chunk.

stol... borrowed from Pirate...

As far as I know it should swap. The 94 may have an anti lock brake rear diff...
Not all do, but the difference is just a sensor that can be ignored.

the abs sensors could be at the wheels on the 94.

Correct I believe.

The axle shafts ans bearings are different too I think.

yeah there are the abs gear thingies on each shaft.

OK, digging tells me there are two different ABS setups. One is found as rear axel only ABS and has one sensor sensing the teeth of the ring gear on the differential. The other is all wheel and has a sensors at each wheel.

In 1994 they introduced 4 wheel ABS on the 4runner only. Never was on a pickup.

For the rear wheel only ABS the only difference is the speed sensor and it's mounting hole on the differential carrier. There are no parts changes to the axle housing, shafts, and hubs.

"no other difference" from a non-abs truck? you are correct, just plug the hole in the 3rd member.

"no other difference" from a 4 wheel abs truck? no i the axle shafts are different, but I dont know it they are interchangeable.

sorry your wording confused me.
