Here’s a garage pic that shows how it sits.

I keep going back and forth between this awning and the Wraptor 6K from Overlandpros. What rack do you have your awning mounted to? Another concern of mine is the weight. They're both over 70 lbs w/o the mounts. Can you feel the weight when driving? I plan on only mounting an awning only when needed but taking it on/off might get old so I'm also considering the smaller ones. Slightly leaning towards the OVS units due to price and color but unfortunately they keep moving the availability date up.

It's on the bowfin rack. My truck is pretty loaded with stuffed drawers and such. Basically always loaded and ready for trippin, so I can't say I noticed any difference with the weight of the awning. It's not something I would want to be taking on and off for sure just from a bulk perspective.

How was the mounting on the Bowfin? Was it straight bolt on or did you have to modify/drill or source new mounts/hardware? Got any pics with it all rolled/zipped up? Sorry for all the questions.

Both the Wraptor and the OVS come with very burly mounting options that should bolt straight onto the top of the rail on the Bowfin just like the Bowfin-provided option does.

OVS provided mount. Wraptor is similar:

You just sold me on this rack. It seems to be just what I am looking for. You even have it installed on the same rack I am running.

How did you install it? Did it come with mounts? Did you have to drill into the rack?

Thanks

That's not my Awning, just one I was considering during my research. You could probably post in that thread or ping the owner directly. :)

I used the bowfin mount vacman posted above. Worked great. I also have a nice solution for mounting items to the bowfin with hardware that doesn't require you to remove the bows if you want details.

My nephew has my truck at the moment, so no pics of the hardware but this is how it looks packed up. I can get the hardware pics next week if you like.

The lights I use to light up the campsite at night which hang from the awning stay with it when it stores as well.

Yes on details on your solution for mounting items on the Bowfin.

Wow, the awning looks huge all rolled/zipped up. Will probably go with the smaller size now.

Are those BIO sliders? Planning on getting those for both my 80’s. They just look better to me than tubular ones.

Thanks for the pic. It made my decision to go with the smaller one easier.

They are BIO sliders, I like them quite a lot.

As for the details on mounting things to the bowfin, I use the method described here. How to add accessories to rack w/o having to unbolt crossbars or drill access holes - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-add-accessories-to-rack-w-o-having-to-unbolt-crossbars-or-drill-access-holes.503835/

Basically gives you a t-nut with a ball spring that can slide in and out of the rail but tightens up against it once you screw into it.

Sweet. Thanks for link/info!

Yeah, its the 4k. This is the sweet spot in my opinion.
Totally agree. I'm between this and the OVS 270LT. I just want it for a quick deployment when we stop somewhere. I don't see the benefit (for my specific case) where the forward swing is worth the extra weight penalty.

What made you choose the Wraptor versus the OVS?

Overland Bound had a decent sale going on and did a full install, setup, and takedown on YouTube.

Yeah I linked that in my initial post on this thread. Did you get the "member" price? If so, do you mind sharing it? I don't mind being a member there but I don't really understand why everything's behind a paywall. You'd think they'd want to show the discount to prospective members to get more people to join. I found it on a 3rd party site for $681 delivered.

Member price is $725. Where did you see it for $681?

Outback Tents offered me a 5% off coupon when I registered with my email. I see now they're not applying it, so not sure if it's a time thing or if they changed the rules. Maybe I'll try another email address, otherwise I guess I'll regret it. :)

New email address, new code. Sorry, $688 not $681. I'm getting old.
