Nice project Jack, that is some serious capacity.

Thanks, and yes it is. It is a real nice feeling for middle of nowhere type exploring.

Just a random thought. Could it be that the venting isn't adequate and the pump has to push harder than it's supposed to.

The gas cap and smog cannister have vents that will allow the tank to suck air in, but won't let it go back for smog reasons. Maybe the vents between the two tanks need to be connected to equalize the air pressure?

Or maybe they just sold you a slow pump?

I think the pump is just slow. It is designed as a carb pump, so it is not designed to push a ton of fuel like a FI pump. When I read the specs on the pump I thought it was rated a little slow, but it gets the job done. I just have to be patient. The other thing is to do the switch before I am climbing hills in the Sierras at 65+mph.

Don't they sell a high GPM pump just for fuel transfer?

Jack,

you can get pumps that have built in check valves and a decent GPM. I think I got mine from Carquest and the whole thing was a nice, light package and required no external brackets.

They do. This pump came with the kit, so until it gives me a real reason to do so, it will stay. That is unless I get impatient...:p
