The rubber around the rear window and around the doors I washed with hot soapy water then brake cleaner then mothers vlr love that stuff around the tailgate and a couple under the bonnet and the furry strips that the windows slide through I got of a guy in Deloraine that supplies local body works and smash repairs. Classic autos I think it was called. They don't have the holes for the clips so we glued them on

Well took the cruiser for a drive today been waiting for that for a long time. It drove really well bit of an exhaust rattle won't take much to fix the 2 h has got this lovely tickle the speedo just clicked over 9000kms but the motor has 21000kms since full rebuild going to give everything a nip up Tommorrow. The battery didn't cook where benny had taken the internal regulator out of alternator and used external reg there was a wire touching fried the fusible link it's been dodged up but I can tidy everything up later just want to cruise at the moment

The back window is strange of a night with the lights of other cars being bright, different to the barn doors. put a tuff dog RTC steering dampener in today that helps heaps with the steering less bouncing around also need to straighten the steering wheel it's bloody annoying. The front drive shaft needs to be shortened as there's no
Movement in the slip joint enough things to keep me busy. I tested the speedometer with an app on my phone and it was pretty accurate which surprised me with the 33s

Just had a flick through this and it's a pretty impressive build! I get my 55 on friday! Not much rust and it's fairly straight. Will need a bit of love before getting it on the road. Just wondering if you're at the stage of selling any parts you have in case i need some?

Thanks mate it's taken a long time to get this far fairly rust free and straight is a great start biggest piece of advice drive it then drive it then drive it some more if you can before you tear it down. Yes I have tried to keep as many bits and pieces as I could and would love to see them get used I'm based in tassie so depends where you are shipping might be prohibitive

I can't wait to get it. Taken it for a little drive when i bought it but that's it. It does drive really well and i have a FJ40 and an FJ55 as well so i am familiar with them. I won't do a frame off for a long time, i just want to neaten it up and get it on the road. I may need some little things like lights and vents etc. I'm in melbourne so it shouldn't cost too much to get stuff sent.

Well adjusted the drums on the rear today and straightened the steering wheel makes so much of a difference seeing the gauges clearly took it for a spin there was a bit of an oil smell I got out and had a look under and the only thing I can think it might be is the breather on the diff was a little wet around it and I could see air bubbles coming out of it. Where the lever was for the pto I've only got a bit of rubber matting over the hole so I thought the smell might be coming up through there. I will have to ask matty tomorrow. Also got another two tyres that are better than a couple I have on there so I'll get them put on and a wheel alignment done.

Mate if it diff oil then it's a horrible pungent smell. Nothing like engine oil. And there's every chance that it is coming up through that hole in the floor. What'd your mate say?

If you're getting oil and bubbles out of the breather, then it might be time for a knuckle rebuild. You might have water in there forcing the oil out the vent.

Drove into work tonight the cruiser went really well small leak around gearbox small leak around one of the brake resivours and occasionally a strong diff oil smell. Very different driving in here to savage river without the strong arm steering

We'll the oil smell was out of the gearbox tried to tighten it and it sheared off so will have to tap it out

Cut the dash for stereo I know sacrilege just need some one to wire it up as I'm not confident

I'm no expert on this, but looks like you might need to rebuild your transfer case. There's an o ring on that shaft that might be letting the oil slip by. The bolt you broke off, only holds the lock plate in place. Tighten to only 9 ft. lbs.

Sorry to hear.

I'm going to talk to Matt when I get home from work next week your probably right Ron the first gearbox I got was an air actuated 4wd system it was only after I bought the $700 rebuild kit and it sat there for so long that I couldn't return it that I bought this gearbox and transfer if it's not one thing it's another. At least I got to drive it for a week or so

Hi, just read all of your thread, nice Pig! I have a couple in Launceston. I have a thread on here for my original one and I have another, unregistered but in good nick. I paid $300 for the second one!
