For those of us with crap (wow, cr@p is filtered?!) tires, this is a little intimidating. So I was really trying to figure out how to get a good approach on the dam..

So I got home from the event today and realized I was running my towing pressure in the tires (48 psi) the entire time. Was wondering why I was bouncing all over the place today. Today was the first official "trail ride" I have taken my rig on and it was a blast. Glad it didn't rain, no one broke anything and no one got stuck, probably have the careful route planning to thank for that. So as my first official, gentle trail experience, it was great. Consider me even more bit by the bug.

I need to learn more about the trails and service roads in North Georgia, I think there was probably a lot more stuff up there to explore. I found the GA Forestry Service Map for where we were today and am trying to chart and mark what we did today. RJ, what was that last trail we took?

After today's ride I am seriously looking into some new rubber and a lift kit. My only dilemma will be rear spring rate, since I use my rig to tow often and I plan on doing more of an expedition style build eventually. So probably need the heavy duty kit, but I worry how that will do on the trail empty/unloaded.

I had a blast Sunday's ride, especially the more hairy sections. Robert, thanks for the route planning and guiding (and patience with my crappy driving and fluidless shocks.) You folks who left early did miss a GREAT road on the last section. Matthew, it's FS 637 but their maps don't seem to show it's entirety - I'm going to consult USGS maps next.

Brent, your rig looks great, you're going to love trailing that baby. Tyre, you've got a great looking setup, perfect balance of ruggedness and sensibility, with none of the showy crap on rigs that will never see mud.

I'm ready to go back to these and find more like them!

ahhhh -- the bug has bitten. This is where you break out your wallet and just stomp on it cause it's about to get expensive. First step: 33s, rear locker and rock sliders. :flipoff2:

Glad yall had a great time and no one broke or got stuck. If the weather was anything like what was at my house (Dacula, GA) then it was great to be out exploring. Its rides like this when I miss having a full bodied and street worthy rig...

Then I go to trails like this and am glad its not...:grinpimp:

Really glad yall had fun, I love to variety of wheeling we have in the club...

Perma-grin!

Did you ever have one of those trail rides where you have a new truck, the trail is easy but fun, and you can't help but laugh out loud just because you're having such a fun time?

Sunday was the first time I had my "new" 100 off the highway. It was a great way to get just a bit of mud on the tires, and explore some new territory. RJ, Robert, Tyre, Matthew, Max and Stephen it was great wheelin' just a bit and finding out how fun the group outings can be. I look forward to more!

glad you had fun Brent. If you enjoyed that Windrock next month will blow your mind

AuburnFJsexy, I don't think my unmodified FJ62 would do so well there on that trail. Trying to decide if I can make the Sept Windrock event, I don't think I will have the time/$$$ to get the rig modified before then. I like the videos of Walden's Ridge, but I definitely couldn't make that climb.

It was a pleasure meeting all of you and I had a lot of fun Checking out the area. It was my normal level of wheeling but covering the ground we did quickly made up for that. I look forward to meeting up again with the GA Cruisers and enjoying a common interest. It took me a minute to realize I was taking the HWY home that we use as part of our mountain runs back when I had my S2000. The 4runner brakes got a little hot on the way down haha.

Matthew, you and I (unmodified 60) could make it down that trail, but whether our wheels will be up, down, or still attached would be the question to consider before starting!

Yeah, that highway back - SR60 - was one of my favorites in my Miata. But my FJ60 doesn't feel quite the same....

Nick, That just means that you need to have TWO trucks!

I totally agree! Can I borrow some $$$??? :grinpimp:

If you're looking for real rigs you're in the right place. If you're looking for spare $$$, you need to go to a Jeep forum.

You don't need any work to make windrock. You could take your stock 62 and have a great time. I am probably going to wheel my stock 4Runner at the STLCA annual meeting in November. If it is relatively dry 16 and 22 would be great runs. Don't feel like you are under the gun on mods, just drive it as is and have a blast. Heck even the connector trail is pretty fun for a dirt road.

No, It absolutely will not do that trail and come out the other side in 1 piece. However....Windrock is huge and offers a lot more mild to moderate trails than Nick's picture indicates. He's just showing off a little and that's ok, he deserves to after all the work he's put into that rig!

I know there are a variety of trails at Windrock, my post was probably not worded the best. I was talking about the trail pictured and Walden's Ridge, since those look really cool. Plus, I really want to use any excuse I can with the wife to "justify" mods. So I don't show her the service roads, I show her the video of Walden!! See what I did there? Anyhow, the mods I want are relatively tame compared to you guys. Just a lift, 33's and new bumpers (which I would fabricate) and a winch. So say, $3500.. Sounds reasonable doesn't it? Cheap wench obviously. Lockers would be next, but those are expensive.
