Still got a few kinks to work out; it's a little shaky. But it's sooo comfortable.

Very interesting, what was the donor? looks like you could do the mod with the seat in the truck? at this point what would you change?

and by the way, good for you in finding what seems like an easy solution people have been looking for since these vehicles arrived in the country!

Cheers Peter

I see that you have the original console arm rest. Does that not work enough? I have have the standard console cover and thought the taller padded one would help. Maybe not??

I think the donor was a silverado pickup.... I just did an eBay search for grey armrest and found something I thought I could make work. The color is way off, but oh well.

I thought about making some sort of mount coming up from the floor near the e brake, but I wanted it to look stockish. My leather is already absolutely destroyed. If I recover one day, I can cut just enough to put on the armrest and hide the mount with the new leather.

I thought that armrest was for the passenger... LoL

Another mud member used an armrest lid from a Volvo and mounted it on top of the original armrest. I believe the added height worked for him. Besides, it had pop out cup holders. I may do this mod in the future just for the cup holders. Looked pretty stock, too.

armrest (cup holder) mod part 2

As mentioned above, this armrest lid is from a Volvo S70.

Patent disclaimer... I stole this idea from another mud member; Thanks.

That was my mod, glad to see someone else tried it! I have since put the Volvo armrest on another Land Cruiser and just put one on an Audi A4 Quattro, makes it sit up high enough to where I don't think the other armrest is needed plus it adds cupholders!
Would be nice to add an armrest without having to destroy the upholstery.
Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for posting it; don't know how I got by so long without it.

I think I installed mine a little differently than you. I removed the LC lid and replaced it with the Volvo lid. I removed the front latch and epoxyed it to the Volvo lid. The hinge required a little tweaking and spacing to work with the Volvo lid.

New cruiser = new armrest mod. This one came out even better. It's even more sturdy and did not require me to destroy the leather like the last one.

If you have power seats, it's a lot easier to do this mod.

First you have to cut into the leather to expose these two bolts on the back rest and remove them. You will be replacing them with longer bolts. 1.25 in length should do.

Now you have to fabricate a bracket that will hold the armrest and bolt to the seatback using the new longer bolts.

Now attach your armrest to the bracket and bolt the bracket with armrest onto the seatback.

Now you're ready to ride in comfort!

Is there any storage under the Volvo armrest? Anyone try an extended armrest from any other lexus sedan? I would really love my stock armrest to be taller AND have that extra little bit of storage.

There's no extra storage. It all gets utilized to conceal the cupholders in the closed position.

I plan on doing this when I redo the leather on my seats. I had the seat mounted arm rests on my Range Rover and my F-250 and have missed it on this truck. I'm sure I look like I'm trying to pimp leaning to the middle to hit the armrest on the 80.

Blasphemy!!!

I kid! Very nice.

I drove Range Rover Classics (87-95) back in the day, and always loved the adjustable armrests. This is a welcomed 80 mod.

Heck, my mom's $40k RX has armrests. (Hmm... I wonder if they'd work).
