Can anyone tell me what color the positive wire is on dc power cord.
The cord is white and black.
Or can you plug the dc cord in and pin it out for me.

Thanks.

Should be black. Just check which one has continuity to the center pin of the DC plug, that is the power.

Ya............ ... .....

The problem is that the vechicle side plug is gone , cut off and Im trying to install a new plug .
I dont know the pin out .
Im trying to avoid reverse compressor action .

Well, I don't think I can help, I have the new three pin plug. The two side by side spades are power, the odd one out is ground. The entire cord, plug, housing is fully molded, no luck on seeing the internal wire color.
FWIW the power wire appears to be the one with the white strip on the outside of the wire mould, maybe yours is the same.

WHOA !!!!!!!???????????????? I think you guys have confused me and or yourselves...

You asked about DC (BATTERY 12V) wiring. Black should be -, white should be +. If you are talking about AC (wall plug 120V), you would have the 3 prong plug 2 spades and an "odd one out". Here you will have 3 wires, Black white and green. Black is "hot" white is "Neutral" and Green is "Ground"

DO NOT plug a 120VAC plug onto 12V DC source (or vice versa)!! (you will likely get very very bad results)

Just you ;)

The Engel plugs BOTH have 3 prongs, however the AC uses a standard parrallel scheme (similar to every computer, monitor, etc cable) and the DC uses a different setup...

Where were you able to source a new plug? I've been looking for one and never had any luck. Share the wealth :D

I didn't post to this thread because .... I didn't know the answer. :D

But here's some more info anyway....

I got tired of having my cig plug wiggle out while rockcrawling only to find my ARB off line at the end of the day.

In a fit of frustration I cut the cig plug off and hard wired the cord. Pure joy. :)

But I use the ARB in multiple cruisers so I needed a plug. Being a cheapskate I opted for a inexpensive two pole automotive connector. Think of a trailer plug with only two wires. I figured out which wire was positive by trial and error. 50 - 50 chance of getting it right... the first guess didn't work... 100 percent probability of success on my second try. :D BTW, the incorrect guess didn't seem to hurt the fridge, it didn't run backwards, it just didn't work at all. It still works great after my incorrect guess.

The new plug is solid and I never worry about it wiggling loose while bouncing down rough roads. One of these days I plan to make a "dongle" with a cig plug and my special connector so I can use the frdge in vehicles with a regular cig plug. Meantime, no worries with the plug wiggling out.

I should also note that I have "fixed" more than one ARB fridge that was in operable or blowing fuses because of the crappy design of the ARB cig plug. If you take one apart you'll see it's a short circuit waiting to happen. Very flaky in my opinion.

Lastly, IIRC the Black was the positive (that's why it took two guesses to get it right.) ;)

I tried to find am after market or compatible DC plug for the ARB, I searched the InterWeb for the part number, SAWA??? IIRC, but no luck. If any of you web wheelers can source a replacement plug for the DC (shown in Kurt's photo) I'd love to score a couple.

My final bitch is the "heaviness" of the ARB cord. A lighter more flexible cord would be much better. No reason for that fat stiff SOB in my opinion. I mean, come on, it's only 3.5 amps!

See why I tired to refrain from posting?

Cheers,

P.S. I should have read your linked thread Kurt, I posted in that one too:rolleyes: Thanks for the useful content Kurt. :)
Damn, I hate being so redundant...

Anyway, someone really should find a generic replacement for the SAWAFUJI DC plug. Hmmm, maybe I should check YourTube...
