old thread revive here.

j just bought a new a/c bezel from the rust farmers. it’s a perfect match for the old brittle one i have in with cracks and rattles. because they are hard to find and i don’t know how long they’ll be stocked i dont really want to cut it up and modify it to make
my arb compressor/locker switches fit. i’m hoping to use a fj62 defrost switch. the compressor/locker have all been installed using the harness they came with. i’m just trying to figure out if/how to wire the fj62 switch.

here’s what i know….

the arb switch is a carling 5 wire switch.

the top right and bottom right are neg and pos respectively for the lower switch light that comes on with the dash lights. mine have never worked i sure i elected to not hook them up.

the left wires top to bottom are switch light neg, accessory power into the switch and bottom is switch power to accessory.

the fj62 switch is a three wire switch

i assume the left is power into the switch, the right is power to the accessory and the bottom is ground for the light (but i may be wrong)

on the arb compressor the power is is a red/yellow wire, power from switch to accessory is red/black dots and ground is neg. the compressor works fine with the two right side wires disconnected

when i hook those three wires up to the respective posts on the fj62 switch for compressor the switch light will light up with the switch on but no compressor power. when the fj62 switch is off and i turn on the arb carling switch (i'm trying to figure out one switch at a time) the fj62 switch light comes on 🤨. but no matter how i put the wires the compressor won’t come on.

so does anyone have any insight as to the wiring of the fj62 switch to help make this work. i know that there are relays in the arb harness that only allow the locker switch to light up if the compressor switch is on first. maybe this is confusing me leading to wrong switch wiring?

you wouldn’t think three wires would be so confusing. but maybe it’s because i don’t understand the switches inner working or maybe there’s an diode effect from the led in the carling that the incandescent from the old toyota switch doesn’t give? i’m not really sure
