Well, the Bull Bar arrived today. I didn't even get a chance to open the box though, had to go to work instead. That is just wrong!

Anyway, yesterday I was reading some older posts about installing the ARB with a winch. There was some question about spacers. I ordered the kit to fit an XD-9000 in my ARB. Here is a picture of what I got for my $28. Not much, but since I just don't have the equipment to fab this kind of stuff, it works for me.

Then next is a picture of the Bull bar (oops, still in the box, sorry!)

I just recently installed an ARB and XD9000 and did not need any spacers, it bolted right up to the ARB with no problems. I'm not sure why you would need them unless I am missing something here.

Toy- it will bolt up, but take a closer look. Your motor is up against the backside of the face of the bumper. This puts stress on the winch case and motor bearings. It needs to be spaced.

When I helped Stuck install a winch in his truck, we just ordered some steel from Mcmaster.com and drilled a few holes.

Look at the warn websight and see specs for your specific application but I think all of the xd's in the 8000 to 12000 range all have the same bolt pattern. The difference is how far out the motor sits and the height of the bottom of the motor from the bottom of the mount. They do need spacers though.

TOY350,

Did you have to drill any new holes? Do all (or most) warn winches use the same bolt pattern?

The only holes I drilled were in the roller fairlead to mount it to the bumper.

I will research the spacers though, apparantly they are needed.

You will need the spacers....especially if you have an older 9000 with the vented motor cover. I only had one set of spacers (2) and needed to space farther...so I had to make a set of equal thickness

Good luck

And as posted.....prefit bumper...try in first ( mine took a couple wacks with a two pound hand sledge to the frame before it would slide on) then take off and bolt on winch BEFORE installing bumper....BRING FRIEND hEavY !!!!!

Yeah you will need spacers. And you can put the winch on after you put it on. Bailey and I didn't have a problem except when he droped the spacer on me. But hey now I got a battle scar on my arm from putting on my winch.

Sorry guys but I need some more input on the spacer thing. I couldn't find anything stating the winch needs to be spaced away from the bar. There wasn't any info with my bullbar either. I went out and checked my installation: the winch fits in there fine, the motor is not touching the bullbar anywhere and there is about a fingers width clearance from the motor to the front of the bullbar.

Does the spacer give the bar/winch more structural support for loads or is it for spacing the winch back further for cooling purposes? If I spaced it back an inch I don't see how it could cool any better than it would now.

Thanks.

Well, I can't say I know what difference it makes, but ARB said it was required to space the XD9000 into the Bull Bar.

ARB SPECS

This link is the product listing that said the spacer kit was required. As I said before, I could have fabbed something, but just don't have the tools or the patience! :frown:

I understand now after inspecting mine further. I will space it back because it is touching right now. Thanks guys.
