Having a 2011, I don’t have the front off road camera. I came across this that would allow me to add a front camera and allow me to use my rear camera any time. Anyone know if it’ll work on the LC? Toyota loves to use the same connectors on their head units...

This would be pretty cool for when towing a trailer. I never use my OE NAV on the MFD (multi-function display). Having the backup cam on to monitor the trailer would be useful.

I imagine it's a pretty easy mod that could be done with any switch, though theirs is nice. Basically trick the NAV to think the vehicle is in reverse by grounding a wire on the NAV/MFD unit.

That was part of my thinking. During the summer I have my turtle back with me a LOT and this would definitely be cool to have. Just don’t know about the connectors matching. Maybe I’ll just buy one and see if it fits.

Contacted them a while ago and they said they don’t have anything that supports the LC 08-2011.

Anyone have pictures of the connectors we could send them? I’m thinking they just don’t know.

I just bypassed the head unit entirely and added a 7” screen and rear camera for under $100. Hard wired a power switch so I can use it any time...forward, reverse or even engine off. Would be just as simple to wire a front camera if you aren’t looking for recording, but merely visibility in front and back.

Same screen can handle a second camera input, so I may add a front out on my bull bar at some point for wheeling alone or when no spotter is available.

I have been in contact with the guy that does those kits, for the same reason. I think it would be super useful to be able to flip the camera(s) on whenever you want. I sent him the complete wiring diagram for my '15. He is thinking that the camera system in the LC/LX is more complicated than the other trucks, they may have some sort of digital system since there are 4 wires going to each camera, not just 2.

He wants a photo of the back of the MFD head unit with all the plugs, then he may be able to put something together for me to try.

If all you want is the ability to turn on a particular rear/forward view any time, I highly recommend just adding a dedicated screen. Zero fiddling with crazy wire diagrams... No wait time... Just flip the switch and boom.
You can see.

You can see (ok it’s s big visual mess for me now, but that’s just my eyes/brain issue. To normal eyes, it’s great!).
Is there a load time for your screen from power off/sleep to displaying the image?

No more than 1 second.
Maybe less.

Edit:
I just tested it...more like 1.5 seconds. :) But that’s any time. So no waiting til you’re in reverse for the camera. Flip the switch ...even if truck is off.

No offense, but having another screen to deal with reminds me of this...

Heh. Nah. ;) Reality isn’t nearly so crazy...

The “visual mess” I mentioned was a reference to a problem I have with triple vision...not the dashboard view.

Really pretty clean:

Nothing to deal with but pushing this on/off switch:

But anyway...
Here is why it makes sense for me...

-I can’t see anything in my rear view mirror but a small “V” shape...and nothing at all when fully loaded...and the built-in back-up camera is mostly blocked...rendering it useless. I keep my main console screen off 100% of the time except to adjust sound or AC, etc. and believe me...this rear view is a major help.

When I want to see behind me, I poke the switch. I tend to keep it on in daylight, and off at night unless backing up.

Works for me.

PS. The camera sits directly above my hitch. If connecting a trailer, I simply point the camera downward and it’s like having an eyeball back there. Easy to hitch up even alone, which is great for stuff like this(!!)...tho this particular job happened just before reattaching my swingouts in back. ;)
