anyone with a new vehicle(under warranty) doing their own oil changes ?

My wife's new car's oil change is due , it's a 2015 we got with 4400 KMS on it.
I want to drop the oil out myself and use a factory filter , the few times when I've been too busy and my wife's previous car has been to the dealership or MR L*be I've found that the filter or the oil pan bolt was way to loose the last time - I unscrewed the oil plug it was just past hand tight .
Dealer wants $70 plus they can't get it in till next weekend ! WTF!
Im thinking Ill buy oil & filter from them , get a little maintenance book log what I've done and keep the receipts in it ?

looks like I've miss read the oil change schedule , its not due until 8000 KMS - how ever its been driven for a few month already and Im a believer of 3 month or 5000 KM oil change intervals - the car only hold 3 litres of oil and a filter is less than $10 even through Nissan . I will call Nissan Canada on Monday.

Just talked to the service Manager his suggestion was 6 months or 8000 KMS he said in 3 years on this Model they've had zero problems ! so i may just let the stealer ship do the oil changes he suggested not to use synthetic either he said if I was paranoid I could do the oil changes at 4-5 months or 6000 kms but said it would only be wasting my money!

I did all my own oil changes on my 2004 Astro which I bought new. Kept a log book kept the dirty oil filters and receipts
Never had an issue with the warranty. I always do my own oil changes. Also used the delve filters for the first year and then switched to napa gold filters the dealer told me that wasnt a problem switching brands of filters. I just made sure I kept them all. Doh. And I still have them. Lol. I guess I can chuck them out now.

Only thing I still haven't changed also was the dexcool. Pretty sure I was suppose to change that at a certain time also. Still the original crap in there. Maybe I should check that one day.

I've changed my oil on my new vehicles as well. All oil filters (or most at least) are 'new car warranty approved' so take that with a grain of salt. New vehicles nowadays are so much more reliable and engine manufacturing tolerances are much more consistent.

I drove a 2007 Yaris to 140k from new and only ever had to change the oil and filter

My 2011 Subi has 172k and also, no issues, just regular maintenance according to la manual.

You have nothing to worry about if you change your own oil and filter.

You have to keep records and reciepts though for any potential warranty issues. Pretty sure you dont have to keep old filters........

I bought the car new from Port Moody Toyota and now I buy Toyota oil and filters from them and change my own. I keep a complete record of the work and have the receipts for the oil and filter just in case of engine issues.
I find that the prices are not too bad at Toyota, especially when I remind them we are repeat buyers of 2 new cars.

On both the Subi and the Toyota I keep receipts of the oil purchase and the filter purchase, those go in the 'service record binder' with the km and date changed. I've also added Fumotos to both to make changes a breeze.

I would never go to a 'quik' place, between stripped plugs and no oil stories - We had a tech lose his shop cloth into the torque converter of our Jetta once.. almost had to do a finger count right there.
