wheeling in September
Unless my source comes through with my (free!!!) tickets for the Notre Dame-Michigan State game that day I will wheel. I can't do September 8 for sure- that's the ND-Penn State game.
Anyway, way back when my pig was blue, white and primer, and not yet sprung over (and on 33" skinny tires), the pig run took me through a rough (for me at the time) trail. I ruined a rocker panel, the bottom of one quarter panel, and scraped the hell out of the bottom of my truck. It was so devastating to me I was pissed on the way home at how I abused my truck. It did, however, provide the last bit of impetus I needed to decide to do the spring over. I can still remember seeing BK just walking over all the rocks and me working my ass off pushing the stock piggy through the same trails...............
Bottom line is that I have never been back down into that area. For my basically stock truck it was brutal. It was certainly wet and it rained hard in the afternoon on our way out of the park. That was the day we ran into four jeepers, all of whom had serious problems. testing my memory here but in the group that day was Don from NY (I think) in his 80, Brian K in his 55, Dozier in his 55, and Craig Merkey and father in Craig's 40. May have been others but that's who I remember at this point in time. And yes, Virginia, I want to do it again.
Steve Colavito emailed earlier this week to see if anyone is interested in wheeling this weekend, specifically Sunday August 26. I can't make it but Steve and John Pulich have apparently been cooking up a plan. Other than the planned wekend in September (covered above) my next wheeling trip will probably be the Fall Crawl. That should be a good time.
And while we're talking about trail runs we really should consider some cold weather runs this year. jeff and I have had a few good ones in recent years, and in the early part of this year Craig Merkey and I (with passengers) did a two-truck jaunt through Rausch Creek. Very little traffic and we covered a TON of ground. Wheeling in cold weather means no bugs- no snakes- no 120 degree cab temps- lots of incentives! Factor in some possible snow and it can be a lot of fun. Think about it.
Gotta run, who else is interested? Gary S
