Why would anyone get into a bidding war or pay over MSRP for an FJ Cruiser?

I sure wouldn't-- and it sounds like you wouldn't, either, but I think we're smarter than a lot of people. If I wanted one (I don't, by the way) I'd wait a couple years for used ones to show up on the market and get one then-- let someone else pay for the hype and the depreciation of a new car...

FOr some people it's just the novelty of being the first one to have it.... Nostalgia (in the case of old cars taht are remade) prestige-- who knows? Hype is big-- look at all the people who got suckered into buying H2-- a prime example of the fact that you dont need to build a good vehicle to sell it like hotcakes-- you just need to convince enough people that's it's a good vehicle.

Like something I saw on TV once about the new Thunderbird-- a guy was saying "I always wanted one when I was in High school back in the 50s, and I never got one, but here's my chance..." now that he is too old and decrepit to go cruising for chicks or whatever the hell you do with those things.

It may not make sense to pay twice MSRP for you or I, but it does happen.

From what i understand, and from what one of the corp managers told me is that they are planning to base the price of the FJ Cruiser around $20,000 base. They want it to be cheaper than the J**Ps and competive with Nissan and some of their trucks. Hopefully it will be out by spring of 2006, they are still working out some bugs on the waterproofing in the cab of the truck. They keep having a problem with the radio and keeping it water proof.
