Anyone know a good 80 shop in NE Dallas? Wrecked my LX : (

i had full coverage. the wreck was a year ago.

they paid me 10k, i paid them back 3 to keep her.
i have her back together now, with about a grand into repairs.

the estimate for repair was 6500 at first, and then 8500 after they learned the transmission line was cut.

Texlex450, I was thinking the same thing. I bought my cruiser in Keller for 3400. I may put money into building the rig, but I dont know that I could put that much in repairs.

Issue is I don't have anywhere to store it if I try to part it out. And don't have a way of moving it around in the garage once items like axle's, etc are removed to sell.

Real sorry about this. I know this feeling and it sucks.

If you are reasonably confidant in your own wrenching skills, and you can confirm (vis-a-vis a good body shop) that your axle and frame are not bent, I would recommend that you hold onto this and put her back together again. Swapping the parts that are damaged will not be hard, and would be a good time to upgrade to a real bumper as Pin_Head suggested.

The key though would be to confirm that your axle and frame are not bent. This would be a good starting point.

Good luck. You've got a good cruiser community in TX. Ask for suggestions and help and see what they recommend.

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Glad no one was hurt.
Do you have factory lockers on it? I might be interested in it if it has.

Seems to be a bit of feigned altruism pervading this thread, unfortunately.

Regardless, before you decide to part it our or sell it, figure out what's wrong with it. You drove it home, so it's not beyond repair.

If you need parts, a lot of salvage yards are connected to the car part interchange database. Search here, select your region and sort by distance. You'll find a list of salvage yards closest to you.

It's never fun to be in an accident. It's hard *not* to think about it when it happens to you.

You haven't mentioned insurance, so it doesn't sound like you'll be getting any payouts.

If that's the case, get the car drivable and fix the pretty bits as you have time and money.

Where are you getting this from? I think people are being reasonably sincere in their suggestions and comments.

I've been in an accident; I know the feeling of watching your cruiser taken away on a flat bed....never a good feeling.

I think the suggestions are definitely sincere. However some of the comments lean toward the "Can I have your stuff" slant, before we even know what's wrong with the 80.

You're exactly right, it's never a good feeling to have your vehicle carted away - which is why I made the comment in the first place.

Sorry if I came off sounding like I'm a vulture. I have shop and can definitely help out TexLex if he is interested in repairing the LX. With the age of these vehicle, it is often more cost effectve to purchase another similar vehicle than to spend 5-10K in the repairs.

I do appreciate the sincerity and suggestions from fellow mudders. I don't take the comments personally and feel they came across of more " if you decide to part it out, let us know" vs. " I don't think you should repair it so I can have your stuff."

I have gotten vehicle towed back to the house and will be looking into locating used parts, etc. a little at a time.

Once I'm ready to have body work done - take it in have the frame end re-aligned and get the body and paint work done. I'll just consider it " battle scars " and live with some of the cosmetic stuff. It will now just be a " broken in " wheelin' / off road vehicle.

Well, I did a little tear down on the vehicle. It did get the short line coming off the A/C drier.

Due to number of pics didn't want to post them all on this thread. But here is a link to additional pics of the damages: Picasa Web Albums - Nathan and Angela - Wreck pics

Thanks guys. I'll be doing some more tear down this week-end. I'll post up my findings.

I just consulted with Al Gore and he believes you are either in the midst of a bad dream or you are off your meds because there couldn't possibly be that much snow in Dallas due to global warming. I suggest you pinch yourself.

I suggest you write Al Gore and ask him to pay for the damage or you'll go public that it's snowed in Texas.

maybe the snow is part of the " change"

Status update after tear down.

Finally got a/c and radiator pulled out and most of the radiator support stripped down. Radiator is damaged on the bottom center. So will definitely need a new radiator.

Aprons look surprisingly ok. Not for sure but looks like the frame rails may be slightly swayed. Hoping to get it to a shop to get it measured out to confirm.

Found some used parts in the area - radiator support, radiator, etc. So hopefully can get a decent price on repairs.

Also thought I would post a link up that was given to me during my quest. Can buy alot of toyota parts at or below wholesale. Here's the link: ToyotaPartSales.com

Did you have your lex on a flatbed today traveling east on the GWB around ten am? Davenport motors is a really good toyota lexus specializing in land cruisers. Thats where we take our lx. They are off of Plano pkwy east of coit.
