Looks like you guys had a blast. Eagle Rock isnt really for me anymore but we were over on the Mt. Baldy road when the weather hit. BEWARE the road is blocked by a rockslide just as you get above timberline. A well built rig could get over it no problem but I ended up donating a running board and a fender flare to the mountain:rolleyes:

Ended up doing a perilous backup down about 1/4 mile to a turnaround. I could go without doing that again anytime soon!

Would have been cool to run into you, we went right by the baldy trail on the way out. That light hail/ snow mix was crazy. Came down with a fury. I think Leon still has some running boards for sale if you need one. :grinpimp:

That was an awesome trip, thanks to everyone who came out. I was thinking I would be by myself for a while there, and what do you know, we had a great group show up. I can't complain at all about my tire carrier snapping off, I'm just glad A) it didn't fall off on the highway, and B) That was my worst damage. That's the kind of damage I can handle. I'll have to do some thinking on how I will fix that. I'm actually more upset about losing my shackle pin... those dang things aren't getting any cheaper.

The scariest moment of the day goes to Vic trying to stop his FJ40 on the downhill toboggan run. Literally, Justin said the words "I remember this road getting really steep up here" and then we saw Vic getting sideways. Glad you got that controlled, and kudos to you for not panicking and realizing you had enough road to run out and keep it controlled.

Speaking of Justin riding with me, we met up at the store in Divide to leave together, and while he was in getting supplies, I noticed something dripping under his rig. He's been telling me his locker was acting up, chattering and locking while going straight... under closer inspection, there was what we think is a ring gear bolt sticking through the rear diff cover. you can see dents protruding from the inside out where the ring gear has been picking up the bolt and rolling it around inside the diff. He's very lucky that rear end never locked up. Have to take that apart and see what the heck happened in there.

Thanks again to you Victor for being our tour guide and showing us some new terrain. Lots of good clean, warm, dry fun.... well, maybe dirty, wet, cold fun for Trevor and the other buggy... haha.

Blazefighter, we saw your tracks turn off of 379 onto the Mt. Baldy road. We didn't know it was you or we would have followed. I've been on that road in deep snow. Winching and turning around isn't a lot of fun up there. How "well built" do you think a rig would need to be to get over that rockslide?

Honestly I don't think the rock slide is as bad as I was originally thinking. With the snow and lightning I only tried once to get over it and got high centered on my driver's side running board. All I had to do was stack some rocks and I backed right off of it. Just didn't want to monkey with it too much with the weather. My 80 probably would have gone over it without much drama if I was a bit taller or without the steps. What worrys me a little is the hillside where the rocks came from looks pretty unstable. I bet more will fall with the moisture we have been getting. I was thinking of going up there again here in the next couple of days to check it out again now that the weather has gotten better.

Trevor, great photo showing the snow coming down. Your Cruiser is making mine look mighty small..........

It looks like there is a carjacker hangin' on the side of that Jeep.

UPDATE:

I am very impressed with whoever it was that got the Baldy road cleared in 5 days. Its a pretty tight squeeze but its passable now. After my boys and I went for a little alpine hike around Stratton Resevoir we started heading down and I ran into the maintenance guy for the TX tower on the summit. He asked how the road was and didn't know that the rockslide had happened. So whether it was the Forest Service or whoever it was that cleared it so fast. Good Job!
